Excerpt from my Be Gay Do Crimes WIP: She hits the floor with a painful thump, wheezing as most of the air is expelled from her lungs. Her sword, knocked aside in the fall, is several feet away, and Melirin lies on top of her, blade pressed to her throat. “Surrender.” Ness leans up, welcoming the sting of steel on her skin. “Make me.” Both of them go completely still.

An excerpt from my Be Gay Do Crimes WIP: Grinning, Ness darts forward, slipping past her defense for a quick moment. Just long enough for her to carve a line in the other woman’s shirt from the divot of her collarbones to her chest. The fabric parts with a satisfying rip, revealing the tops of her breasts. Melirin’s jaw drops. “You…you—” “I think this cut suits you better,” Ness says with a wink. Hissing, Melirin launches herself at her, and a half second before Ness is flat on her ass, it occurs to her that perhaps the wink was a bit too much.

Excerpt from my Be Gay Do Crimes WIP: Carefully, she tucks the printed money into the interior breast pocket of her pine green coat. Britha made it for her two years ago for First Frost, and it’s easily her favorite piece of apparel she’s ever owned. The cut of the fabric is loose enough to hide the twin daggers at her hips, yet classic enough to blend in amongst commoners and gentry. But best of all is that the wool is infused with temperature control magic—keeping her comfortable no matter if it’s the heart of winter or the height of summer. A close second are the dozens of hidden pockets.

An excerpt from my Be Gay Do Crimes WIP: She leads them onward, beyond the food stalls, to the creator’s circle where ink, metal, and cloth artists display their work. They stroll by beautiful tapestries depicting the legend of the first celebration of Velmere, decorative metal trinkets, and vibrant paintings whose images move upon the canvas. One painting in particular draws Ness’ gaze. It’s of the northern lights, and amidst the shimmering greens, purples, blues, and reds, there are constellations of people dancing across the night sky. The painting has a dream-like quality that’s strangely entrancing.

Excerpt from my Be Gay Do Crimes WIP: Vivee orbits the ballroom holding a tray of crystal glasses filled with golden apple wine. When she drifts near, she offers one to Ness and whispers from the corner of her mouth, “Trouble, three o’clock.” Ness selects a drink and shifts slightly, not too much as to draw attention, but enough for her to cast a careless glance in that direction. Nobles, more nobles, the dessert buffet, nobles again, and—Melirin. Shit.

Melirin is breathtaking with a sword in her hands, her white shirt clinging to her muscles, and her black braid whipping through the air when she spins away. “Ready to give up?” Melirin asks, toying with her by hovering just out of reach. “Aww, if you’re too tired to keep going, you can admit it. I thought you’d have more stamina, but—”

Excerpt from my Be Gay Do Crimes WIP: “You have to try this.” He holds the bowl out to her in offering, and her heart swells at the simple kindness. “Only if you accept a dumpling in return.” “Deal. Mel, you want in on this?” “Sure.” She nudges her bowl of beef stew between them. Ness widens her eyes. It’s strangely intimate to eat each other’s food. If someone had told her a week ago that she’d be sharing food with a prince and her nemesis, she would’ve told them to cut back on the wine. But as they trade bites of their dishes, she can’t deny the air of affection surrounding them. It’s strange but also nice.

Excerpt from my Be Gay Do Crimes WIP: Prince Sathias, heir to the Heskann throne, stands beside the dessert buffet with a sugary confection in one hand and a glass of wine in the other. He’s wearing a sleek black coat that hangs to his thighs in the front and floats in a long trail behind him, and though she knows almost nothing about the man, she gets the distinct impression that he’s the type of person who enjoys loose clothing specifically because it can make any movement more dramatic: the flare of a cape around a corner, a twirl of a skirt, or the flutter of a robe. With a snowy white shirt open at the throat partnered with exquisitely fitted trousers and knee-high boots, he looks less like the prince she’d imagined and more like a fashionable pirate.

Are you okay?” In seconds, he’s skimming his fingers over her, as if searching for an injury, and then he gently eases her onto her back. Fuck. She’s only one limb short of all out clinging to him. Her inability to sleep beside this man without wrapping herself around him is downright embarrassing.
