IDEALLY I'd do something with, like, this kind of styling for getting up the walls, but Cloud 9 Cat Trees are deservedly expensive (Carpenter up in Barrie who makes these to order out of solid wood and carpet)

It's almost done! Just a bit more foliage and arrangement of the existing vines, and the lighting!

Alisaie is so pleased.

The squishy grumpface is making me laugh. I dared move while she was napping.

"Fools."

The cutest girls are, as expected, the main climbers in the household. Forgot to bring one of the machine screws with me to find duplicates for the other hexagon shelf, so work is stalled until tomorrow.
November 24, 2025 at 10:45 PM
Alisaie remembers the hex shelves from my old place, so was the first one up (normally it would be Gaia, but she's trapped in quarantine downstairs) and is delighted by their return.
November 24, 2025 at 3:34 AM
We're about 2/3rds done with this. I can't find the bolts for the other hex shelf, so it's in pieces nearby, but the main shelf has been stained and mounted, and one route up and down set up.

Ideally this would be close fitting. The simplest way and what I've been doing until now is just bringing fabric and slinging it over the top, but that makes it hard to get out of the way when your cat needs to be in a ring. It also bunches unattractively as you can kinda see in the background here.

Some other considerations are:
* Hook and loop can catch on longhaired cats' fur; not so much an issue for me but is for friends.
* The curve of the Sturdi means it's kind of like setting in a half sleeve, so how do I compensate for that with the central rectangular drape and the hook and loop?
November 23, 2025 at 6:55 PM
They flatten down with tension rods to a kind of suitcase size for transport. People usually use drapes to prevent cats from seeing one another, minimize germ transmission, and give cats a break from being stared at by visitors. I'm making my own for aesthetic and price reasons, so behold my draft.

Since I have a lot of cosplay and sewist friends here... I could use some sanity checking on something not cosplay related.
Cat shows use standard sized shelters at the benches where cats go between rings. The most common is from Sturdi. The single is the footprint for all others (double triple).

(she is Suffering, as you can tell, with her custom rainbow cat wheel, and cat wall, and loft bed looking out onto the bird feeder, and comfy blankets to curl up on).

(I may reprint with more infill % and with the .2 nozzle the next time I have that on the printer, but the .4 nozzle did okay.)

I need to paint the job icons so they stand out a bit, but these are fun dice for when you can't decide what to play in FFXIV.

(They're 3d printed so probably aren't perfect but they don't need to be.)

Gaia has a kitty cold so is in the cat room where I can run a space heater and humidifier at higher levels than I keep the rest of the house.

Note: she's absolutely fine, it's just a typical minor upper respiratory infection, but this gives her relief from very mild symptoms and keeps others safer.

I wish I had spare funds atm because I really want to commission someone to create art of Ryne and Gaia holding their opposite namesakes, Gaia-cat and @soltysketches.bsky.social's Ryne.
I should also get updated photos of her wearing this bib and the fancy collar since these were when she was ~10lb.

Spotted little santa hat hair clips at Dollarama and brought them to the doggy playdate at the off leash park. Resulted in adorable photoshoots, and people borrowing the clips for their dogs. 😂

Printed!
November 21, 2025 at 4:52 PM
You act like this isn't already a thing. I am very, very familiar with being a landing pad, getting walked over, having > half my pillow taken over, and getting smothered by floof of various colours and types.

Note Pip behind me on the pillow, and Gaia cuddling in front.
November 21, 2025 at 3:47 AM
I also am printing the shelf brackets since store bought ones seem so flimsy and ugly, and I have a PLA-CF that's a very close match for my wall colours (I used it to print curtain rod holders and you can barely see them against the wall).
I'll weave some faux vines and lights through them!
November 21, 2025 at 3:29 AM
I'm currently staining/sealing the wood for the central shelf in this kinda setup. The hammock bed I previously printed will be on the other side, while the shelf will be bracketed by the hexagon bed/shelves I forgot I had.

Smug girl. Good, it spares my poor antique lamp from getting kicked off the bedside table.

Try to figure out why brainfog stronk today, including it affecting my phone so it said it was Wednesday. Fail.
Fall asleep at a bit past noon despite sleeping well last night.
Wake up with sore throat and headache.
... Ahh, colds.
(Have tested, not covid so far. Probably from the recent cat show)

"Chat, I'm about to end this boy's career."

(Leo dared take over Gaia's favourite spot)
November 20, 2025 at 4:51 AM
Update 3: Leo has gotten his comfy spot.
