I disagree. I'm not interested in star trek becoming the overdone Netflix slop that we see dominating everything now. I like episodic world building. Ignoring what TNG did to map out the cultures, spacial geography and geopolitics of the star trek world is not rational. It laid the entire foundation

Depends how you measure it. All TV was episodic then and rarely had much continuity. Yes its showing its age and is only watchable for nostalgia but story telling wasnt its aim. It was world building and thinly veiled moral lessons about current events of the late 80's and 90's. It succeeded in that
