I love Rose Levy Beranbaum's The Baking Bible and am currently addicted to 3 Doughs, 60 Recipes by Lacey Osterman. Both are great for bakers in your life. The Joy of Cooking is an incredible resource for someone just starting out, because it doesn't assume you know anything.

I really should get back to watching it. There's something so comforting about it.

I always think of time zones because my state has two, and I'm forever fighting for recognition of the one I live in for work meetings. XD And yeah, DST also hits that spot. And those are two problems we hit on in probably five seconds of thought. Which means there are SO MANY more complicated ones.
