In this research, men are presented as specifically having low trust and being let down, which is why they have shifted far right. Yet their own polling shows it is actually women who have even lower levels of trust, yet don’t move far right in the same numbers. This is not examined

We use OECD Official Development Assistance as the baseline for Canada's development spend. For FY24, it was $10.17bn but that includes in-country refugee costs and a one-time recapitalization of FinDev
I suspect government will use a lower baseline of $6-7bn in core GAC spend, and claim no cuts

Some argue an existential fight against fascism cannot be ‘woke’ and has to transcend divides. But fights against fascism have been led by unions, students, feminists and anti-colonialists. They knitted solidarity across their causes, but did not hide their issues in the name of attracting normies

Institutions have always been the first to not just cave to authoritarianism, but to actively collaborate with it. In Portugal, companies gave information to the secret police to allow the surveillance, capture and torture of opponents

Portugal’s history reminds me it is always, always ordinary working people with the most to lose, who fight fascism. The solidarity between students, feminists, anti-racists, and trade unions. The bravery of clerical workers, shoemakers, bookkeepers, clockmakers
