"What we need as a society right now is more Renaissance people. More people who are able to think through multiple discourses."

"[W]here philosophical questions inform scientific questions, and scientific knowledge affects how we understand art and society."
"While other universities report that the humanities are shrinking, at Berkeley, the opposite is true. The music major is the fastest-growing major on campus. We are finding bigger classrooms because film is exploding. English is back to the numbers we saw 15 years ago. We are hiring" bit.ly/4ohKuOe
"The humanities really are a resource — a confidence for living in our times.” Dean Sara Guyer on the modern utility of humanities degrees

Now close the windows
and hush all the fields:
If the trees must,
let them silently toss;
No bird is singing now,
and if there is,
Be it my loss.

Do you ne’er think what wondrous beings these?
Do you ne’er think who made them, & who taught
The dialect they speak, where melodies
Alone are the interpreters of thought?
Whose household words are songs in many keys,
Sweeter than instrument of man e’er caught!

H.W. Longfellow (1842)

Corrupted and compromised, they are.
The fact that only 3 (by my count) Republican members of Congress have spoken out about the Witkoff situation shows how thoroughly corrupted and compromised the entire party has become from top to bottom. None of this is about just Trump - it is the entire political party.
