For Day 14 of #ArtAdventCalendar, this bumblebee bear I sculpted last year! Made from paper mache, coated with silk clay for a smoother surface, painted with acrylic inks.

The yak is very stylized with the shapes and It has a very colorful cloth on its back, blue earrings and big horns. The cloth is heavily inspired by floral folk art pieces. There are some white tear shapes on the coat and some darker red lines indicating where the fur is going. Pale legs with brown cloven hooves. The black background has two bigger blue flowers and smaller orange ones as also white dots.

So here’s my digital mixed media piece, which was inspired by Sarah Anne Johnson’s work (pigment print with oil paint), recently posted by @annpersand.bsky.social. The background is intuitively painted, then layered with a photo of young trees, which are overlaid again with yellow, orange, red, green, blue and purple shapes hanging between branches. Done in Procreate. FUN 🤩

These are feathers I've carved out of quahog shell as the #artAdventCalendar offering of the day. Sometimes called wampum (but not completely accurate), this is a personal variation of a traditional indigenous craft.

The Prothonotary
Here sits, in the center of a landscape-oriented photo, a prothonotary warbler, which is a lemon-yellow bird at the head, but whose body enters a gradient that goes from olive green to a kind of blue-green-gray at the tail. Its eyes are black and empty, and its beak short and dark, even as it's surrounded by the bright green growth of late spring, early summer, the bird itself is manifesting great sinister darkness, for the bird's black eyes KNOW WHAT YOU DID, and it will use its short beak to SING THE SONGS OF YOUR MANY CRIMES and also probably PECK OUT YOUR SINFUL EYES haha I'm just kidding he's mostly just cute.
