Fascism will go away if you ignore it, is what all these liberals have been telling me. That must be why they're ignoring it so hard, it might look like complicity to less sophisticated observers.

What happened to those men, is a question that I have been asking myself. Here is an African soldier driving a military vehicle while putting down the Soviet Republic of Munich.

In practice, when the colonial forces were repatriated, that meant a good share of these men were Africans. These African soldiers then fought as part of right wing death squads in 1919/20, suppressing workers uprisings in several cities as part of their officers' mission.

But here's the odd thing - the colonial officers led troops that were 90% black, and swore by their men. These were Nazis of the first hour, who nevertheless argued on principle that Black people were *not* savages but good soldier material. Romanticizing the other.

Africa as a foil that served to define nationalist ideas in Germany played a role in colonial policy, especially in the way German political parties responded to the genocide in Namibia that German troops committed.
Those same troops were the nucleus of the Nazi party in the 1920s.

women and French-African soldiers, as well as their mothers, were horribly ostracized even in the 1920s, as "Rhineland bastards." But that was just one step below the view of the children/mothers where the fathers were white French soldiers - and that propaganda goes back to Napoleonic times.

The Nazis' view of Africans and Africa is pretty contradictory. Evidently, they were racist (duh). The French colonial troops fighting in WWI, and later on occupying the Rhineland, were scandalized by German nationalists as "bringing savages to Europe to fight other whites." Children born to German

There were a few Nazi movies driven by nostalgia for the lost German African colonies. They had black actors, but I remember being unable to find out much about them a few years ago when I checked.

Forgetting WWII is the point of her statement. She probably thinks the USSR was the main reason for WWII. "Russia made us do it because they were communist" has been the "European" position since 1933.

That's what happens if you take the fascists at their word, that it's about "the issues." On that false premise, it might make sense to "deprive them of that issue."
In fact, "the issue" is always just a tool for mobilizing and organizing a fascist assault on civil society.

I'm sure it's not monolithic once you look at the whole field. I only saw the loudest and most prominent promoters of its application in instruction, in California. And they're universally awful.

They have no concept of capitalism, therefore no concept of imperialism, therefore no valid concept of racism.

In California, the "left wing" always struck me as reactionary. Ethnic nationalism with a veneer of righteousness.

Ethnic studies, including standpoint theory, is a reactionary project. Always has been.

Expropriation? No. Let them keep their property rights, as long as they agree to enjoy them someplace other than Earth.
Expulsion. Rocket propelled exile.

I think the purpose of this legislation is to make even more people ineligible to vote by compelling them to drop US citizenship, even as they stay in the US. But who is to say this fascist regime won't then turn around and take away someone's citizenship, anyway?
