#28: CRAZE (1974) dir. Freddie Francis

If the notion of Jack Palance as a sleazy antiques dealer with a John Waters 'stache sacrificing women to Chuku, an idol which weirdly resembles FUTURAMA's Robot Devil, doesn't do anything for you, you're on your own. 1/3 in VinSyn's CRUEL BRITANNIA boxset

#27: THE RIP (2026) dir. Joe Carnahan

After the trainwreck that was SHADOW FORCE, I wasn't sure what to expect from Carnahan. Now, I can say that even if he'd been coming off COPSHOP, which I loved, THE RIP would have impressed me. One hell of a muscular crime flick that I wish had played theatres

#26: HELLRAISER (2022) dir. David Bruckner

Despite not particularly liking this film the first time around, it stuck with me enough that I watched it a second time, and then recently grabbed the Turbine Media 4K steelbook when it became available. There's just something about it

#25: 28 YEARS LATER - THE BONE TEMPLE (2026) dir. Nia DaCosta

You don't get many horror movies that qualify as a masterpiece but goddamn if this isn't one. It's got a lot on its mind, especially the idea that we're all we've got, for good or ill. Everything I'd hoped the previous film would be

#24: ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER (2025) dir. Paul Thomas Anderson

LICORICE PIZZA is the only other PTA film I've seen this many times (four? I think?) and on every rewatch I find something new to appreciate about it

#23: AT CLOSE RANGE (1986) dir. James Foley

Chris Walken has been everyone's spooky granddad for so long it's easy to forget he's capable of playing straight-up evil, reptilian characters like this. Sean Penn is at the top of his game, too. Bleak and powerful. Top-tier VinSyn/Cinematographe release
January 15, 2026 at 6:16 AM
#22: ICE ROAD: VENGEANCE (2025) dir. Jon Hensleigh

Another audio prep day, another Liam Neeson DTV action flick. While it's not quite good, Hensleigh is enough of a journeyman director to keep things moving. He also knows to center the action on driving and not his 73yo star getting into fistfights

#21: THE STENDHAL SYNDROME (1996) dir. Dario Argento

Generally speaking, I'm no great fan of late-era Argento (post-OPERA, basically) but this has sparks of inspiration, particularly in how it regards our relationship to art and male violence. The VinSyn 4K transfer is immaculate, as well

#20: MARTY SUPREME (2025) dir. Josh Safdie

An incredible, tense character portrait of an all-American sonofabitch. This kind of filmmaking is why we go to the movies and should be protected at all costs
January 13, 2026 at 5:55 AM
#19: GOLDEN JOB (2018) dir. Chin Ka-Lok

Who doesn't love a good heist flick where everyone talks about honor and brotherhood before sieging the bad guy's island fortress? A solid Hong Kong actioner that snuck in feelings while I wasn't looking. Tubi/Plex version has botched subtitles, Google OK
January 11, 2026 at 8:41 PM
#18: ANACONDA (2025) dir. Tom Gormican

Watching this was my penance for arriving at the theater too late to see MARTY SUPREME. The rest of the audience seemed to like it well enough, so there's that

#17: FATHER MOTHER SISTER BROTHER (2026) dir. Jim Jarmusch

After all the garbage I've watched recently, going back into Jim Jarmusch's world was like a balm. The final segment of this 3 part anthology - SISTER BROTHER - is truly touching and one of the best things I've seen in a long time

#16: PRIMATE (2026) dir. Johannes Roberts

At least SHAKMA had the decency to make its monkey a sonofabitch from the jump. I actually liked this chimp at first and spoilers, it doesn't end well for him. Or anybody, for that matter
January 9, 2026 at 4:12 AM
#15: Wild Side [director's cut] (1995) dir. Donald Cammell

Man, there was a time in the 90s when Christopher Walken really would do anything, hey? Anyways, Anne Heche and Joan Chen are electric together

#14: BLACKLIGHT (2022) dir. Mark Williams

Every week, after we record Ghost Story Guys, it takes me 1-4hrs to do pre-edit processing on the audio. It's unbelievably boring work so I'll have a movie or TV show playing onscreen while I do it. Even paying 60% attention, I barely got through this

#13: OPUS (2025) dir. Mark Anthony Green

Don't trust anyone who has a compound. Just don’t do it. Can't say I'm sad I missed this in theaters
January 7, 2026 at 4:57 AM
#12: RUROUNI KENSHIN PT 1 - ORIGINS (2012) dir. Keishi Otomo

This one has been in my Netflix queue since Mike from @a4epodcast.bsky.social brought it up back in the Adkins Undisputed days. Now I'm kicking myself for waiting so long. Hell of a flick

#11: THE SENDER (1982) dir. Roger Christian

Plays like a combo of the sleep study/dream investigation movies of the 80s - NIGHTWISH, BRAINSTORM, NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET - mixed with Mike Flanagan's BEFORE I WAKE. Didn't love it, but its doomed main character will, I suspect, stay with me
January 5, 2026 at 7:36 AM
#10: FEAR (1990) dir. Rockne S. O'Bannon

Another psychic killer/detective flick, this time daring to ask the question, "what if Allison from Breakfast Club went on to be a police psychic?" This is not a compliment
January 5, 2026 at 3:53 AM
#9: SINNERS AND SAINTS (2010) dir. William Kaufman

Even if it's not as tight as Kaufman's other NOLA set flick THE CHANNEL, you still get all the DTV action goodness you could ask for
January 5, 2026 at 3:50 AM
#8: SEVENTH MOON (2008) dir. Eduardo Sanchez

JFC. This was a tough watch, mostly because it's shot in the dark by someone who can't hold the camera still. A cool premise completely nuked by cinematography that turns it into a radio play. Watch Sanchez's found footage masterpiece EXISTS instead
January 4, 2026 at 9:18 AM
#7: THE HOUSE (2017) dir. Andrew J. Cohen

I know the reviews were scathing, it flopped commercially, and there are a thousand problems with the premise, but I love this movie. To tell you how many times my wife and I have watched it would be to reveal wayyyy too much about myself
January 4, 2026 at 9:15 AM
#6: THE OTHER GUYS (2010) dir. Adam McKay

Seen this a few times and don't think McKay gets enough flowers for it. It's a funny as hell buddy comedy with well constructed action scenes and a furious point of view about police violence and a system that fucks over the poor in favor of the wealthy
January 4, 2026 at 9:13 AM
#5: THE BELIEVERS (1987) dir. John Schlesinger

Another instalment in the ongoing "non-white people and their religions are scary" series. A mostly well-written first half is undone by ROSEMARY'S BABY-esque bullshit in the second half and a geniunely idiotic ending
January 4, 2026 at 9:09 AM
#4: WHEN THE BOUGH BREAKS (1994) dir. Michael Cohn

Another TV movie, this one a little more wobbly. Some baffling plot choices that occasionally veer into giallo territory (think DEEP RED), and even Martin Sheen seems not to know what he's doing there
