I... what? I exist?
Yes, yes I do. And I've been cooking! If anyone would like to play a love letter to Grim Fandango, I whipped this up in Godot over the weekend. This is a Papers, Please-esque narrative experience where you sell travel packages to the recently deceased.

This is something I'm giving some serious thought. Who would want one?
I'm thinking they'd include the game DRM-free on CD, a bonus Steam key on a business card, and I could even sign them.

Gauging interest: do you like owning your games and not just a license to play it?
Would you buy our games on CD if you could?
Do you still have a CD/DVD player? Would you get one so we can all Stop Killing Games?
Right now these are just mockups but they could be real!

That's a wrap on the very first Boston Gamedev Week! We were totally blown away by how many people showed up to every single event, wore our pins and embraced BGW enthusiastically. Thank you to everyone who took this leap with us, and to all of our incredible organizers. Let's do this again!

Scratching the itch.io – Godot Game Distribution Strategies GodotCon Boston 2025
Getting your game onto Steam used to be a thousand mile journey, but nowadays all it takes is $100. That said, if you lack the marketing prowess to stand out, you'll be left floundering. Ideally, you ...

$80 for Mario Kart. GTA6 probably $100. Meanwhile indies still going for $1-$20, AA for $30.
Right now what's REALLY lacking is indie visibility. Media & creators gave up on covering indies a while ago, too overwhelming.
There are great games, players just dunno how to find them.

No game coding tutorial will ever warn you that ladders are the most insane thing to program.
You just have to trust the wisdom of the gamedev sages. They warned you. Your hubris got the better of you.
YOU THOUGHT.

Currently coming up with some talk ideas for #PAXEast and #Godotcon. The Godotcon ones are easier to think up but will require more work ahead of time. The PAX ones... man idk. Anyone got some panels in the works? I have much experience in this area. See: profile picture.

Who else will I be seeing at Godotcon Boston? Looks like I'll have about a week straight of conventions in early May. Better come up with some panels.

Leveled up my Blender knowledge a bit today by discovering stencils in the texture painting tab.
I can only imagine what kinds of untold power I can achieve by combining this with the Paint System plugin. Layers, you will be mine.

Since Godot, the engine, runs in the Godot Runtime, this means Godot is a Godot game. Therefore it stands to reason that when you make a game in Godot, you are in fact playing a game development simulator game, but one that realistically reflects the income potential of the games industry.

Also, is anyone else in the same boat of... preferring an oldschool publishing deal that pays a couple thousand bucks every other week as long as there's tangible progress, rather than one gigantic up-front lump sum?
I feel like some weeks have surprise budget needs & some are much cheaper.
I feel like some weeks have surprise budget needs & some are much cheaper.
Any time I write up a budget I'm like, "Damn, that's a tall ask, nobody's going to pay for this."
Then I remember publishers are currently spending half a billion dollars on games just to pull them from market after a couple weeks, so maybe needing under $100k isn't so ridiculous after all.

So... this was surprisingly easy to get working.
I mean sure it's still all in one script but it can only ever be in one state at a time so... that counts, right?
Also I recommend you name your enums with the number of the int value so you don't lose track of where you are in the dropdown. #godot

Ending the year by picking at enemy AI in my Godot project. I still can't wrap my head around a Node-based state machine where you swap to different Nodes that control the code depending on the state, so I'm just going with an enumerator state machine instead. Seems to be the preferred approach too.
