Does Live still work on Xbox 360?
I... what? I exist?
Yes, yes I do. And I've been cooking! If anyone would like to play a love letter to Grim Fandango, I whipped this up in Godot over the weekend. This is a Papers, Please-esque narrative experience where you sell travel packages to the recently deceased.

On September 17, I'll be giving my latest talk: “Open Sourcing Your Tech Stack – How I saved $5000 and Still Made A Game.” We'll be exploring FOSS alternatives to all the software you & your business use to bring your ideas to life. Follow @indiegamebusiness.bsky.social to catch the stream!
This is something I'm giving some serious thought. Who would want one?
I'm thinking they'd include the game DRM-free on CD, a bonus Steam key on a business card, and I could even sign them.
Gauging interest: do you like owning your games and not just a license to play it?
Would you buy our games on CD if you could?
Do you still have a CD/DVD player? Would you get one so we can all Stop Killing Games?
Right now these are just mockups but they could be real!

That's a wrap on the very first Boston Gamedev Week! We were totally blown away by how many people showed up to every single event, wore our pins and embraced BGW enthusiastically. Thank you to everyone who took this leap with us, and to all of our incredible organizers. Let's do this again!
Had an excellent time at Godotcon today! Thank you all for coming to my talk... Bit of a surprise since that was supposed to be tomorrow but I'm happy to trade spaces with Dome Keeper because holy crap Dome Keeper. See you all in the morning! I'll be the one in the white cap.
That's nothing One of em has a Genesis controller.

Us indies is wild.
We do this a lot. FPS's were once just "DOOM Clones." Nowadays we also have "Soulslike" to describe any third person action game with a particularly high difficulty ceiling (though not exclusively third person OR difficult... seriously you wanna hate on a frustrating genre name, this is the one).
Excited to finally announce that my new talk, "Scratching the itchio" will be at Godotcon next month! This is a deep dive into all things itch & exporting your Godot projects for the site. I know I've been AWOL for a bit but I can't wait to see you all there!

Scratching the itch.io – Godot Game Distribution Strategies GodotCon Boston 2025
Getting your game onto Steam used to be a thousand mile journey, but nowadays all it takes is $100. That said, if you lack the marketing prowess to stand out, you'll be left floundering. Ideally, you ...

random reminder that not only does a steam deck have an OLED screen standard now.. but you can also run games from anywhere.. like itch.io which are cheaper 𝗔𝗡𝗗 the devs get a bigger cut..

just a thought
$80 for Mario Kart. GTA6 probably $100. Meanwhile indies still going for $1-$20, AA for $30.
Right now what's REALLY lacking is indie visibility. Media & creators gave up on covering indies a while ago, too overwhelming.
There are great games, players just dunno how to find them.
No game coding tutorial will ever warn you that ladders are the most insane thing to program.

You just have to trust the wisdom of the gamedev sages. They warned you. Your hubris got the better of you.

YOU THOUGHT.

The frogurt is also cursed.
The amount of data that needs to get saved at checkpoints is absolutely mindboggling. Doubleboggle for loading it back in.

It's a miracle games work at all.
Finally came up with a talk idea that felt worthy of submitting to #Godotcon.

Fingers crossed!
Gat dayumn do I love Godot's AnimationPlayer. Nice work!
It's even less-so that and more the, "what can we do with this tech that was already being done before but at 50% speed and at 50% lower quality for 400% the electricity" phase.

Like you'd think that alone would have been enough to put the tech back in the bottle for a couple more decades.

Currently coming up with some talk ideas for #PAXEast and #Godotcon. The Godotcon ones are easier to think up but will require more work ahead of time. The PAX ones... man idk. Anyone got some panels in the works? I have much experience in this area. See: profile picture.
Who else will I be seeing at Godotcon Boston? Looks like I'll have about a week straight of conventions in early May. Better come up with some panels.
Conversely, some high quality AA/AAA games have seen the way pricing is going and have pulled their pricing back, though much of the time in favor of some kind of mtx shop. Sea of Thieves, for instance, is $50 but often on sale for half off. The Soul Reaver remastered pack is 2 games for $15 apiece.
