Orthopedic surgeon. Lover of puns and medical humor. And osteosynthesis. Nothing here should be taken as actual medical advice.
Look, I’m not saying I haven’t seen sticks & stones as mechanisms of injury for fractures, but “Ice & trampolines may break my bones but words can never hurt me” seems statistically more accurate nowadays

I hope every person responsible for spam calling doctors when they’re on call finds all of their Christmas lights irrevocably tangled & their cat breaks their favorite ornaments

Trying to keep track of which colleges are in which conferences is really hard when every offseason has more realignment than a high tibial osteotomy

Me: {setting appropriate postop expectations for pain, function, etc after surgery} “…we can’t make things perfect, but ‘better’ is the goal”

Patient: “So basically…you’re GOOD, not GOD?”

Me: “Exactly”

Oh, so you mean med school?

One thing I always liked about science & math in school was that it was objective.

There were right & wrong answers. It wasn’t like trying to interpret what an author meant by describing a rose bush for 3 whole pages of a novel.

In the legal system you can plead the fifth.

In ortho we plead WITH the fifth—metatarsal, to please please heal despite its sometimes sketchy blood supply.

Even ortho is publishing on baseline preop anemia, so this is good info for all of us to be aware of. We often see people for other injuries/issues before a major fracture, so it’s a conversation to keep in mind.

Anything we can do to improve hip fracture mortality!

I miss the good ole days.

Sorry, stupid autocorrect. I meant, I MISSED the good ole days, which apparently only existed before I was born, bc all we seem to be getting now are the Bad New Days

Hello medtwitter friends. I had to make a new account, got locked out of my other one (anonymity = no backup email if you get locked out & don’t write down passwords)

To prove it’s me:
- get the weight bearing X-rays
- give the Ancef
- admit to Medicine
- it’s called an “open” fracture
