This is a very concerning trend in our province that will do the opposite of solving our #homelessness crisis: delays or rejected permanent supportive #housing + closing temporary #housing + rejection of emergency weather shelters. It is a tragic misalignment #bcpoli🧵
A coalition made up of more than 20 housing operators in B.C. says they're seeing a trend of closures for shelters and other temporary housing units, and are calling on the province and municipalities to take action.

This makes sense. Centralizing, even in businesses and non profits that are smaller but multi-region can really increase capacity and efficiency. Alignment takes some time but still worth it. Great move for the Ministry of Health.

Participated on a wonderful panel at #housingcentral about #housing policy as it relates to non market development. We had as many laughs as serious commentary. The session was packed. As I prepared, I forced myself to look at BC’s housing trajectory from 10K feet. What I saw🧵

The most visible part of this effort is enforcement. However the other side is support. @pacificahousing.bsky.social is one organization doing this work. We’ve done an expanded outreach pilot that has gone out early mornings & evenings since the summer focused on the business corridors 🧵

Been trying to read up to make sense of wht the Fed #budget means for #housing and #homelessness. Here’s a 🧵 I agree with CHRA in that I’m hopeful in the committed investment and what I am sensing is a sincere interest in supercharging efforts. chra-achru.ca/news/chra-ap...

Another powerful story. Davidson demonstrates how supportive #housing works, the awareness when residents are not accepted in a community and the pride of belonging. #housing #homelessness #bcpoli
Supportive housing gave Davidson stability, and he’s turned it into possibility.
At The Aurora, he’s rebuilt his life, found connection, and created a foundation for the future.

This is v unfortunate. I understand & respect why but this just means that all those folks on the street & shelters won’t access #housing into after all the relocations happen. Just recently finished relocating people from sites to be redeveloped.

On solving our biggest and emerging issues .. It can be difficult to determine at first glance what are local , provincial, national or global ones. Sometimes we don’t care bc we just want our problem solved. But it’s an important distinction. The why determines the appropriate response.

Nanaimo’s Design Advisory Panel unanimously approved our proposed affordable #housing project with some practical recommendations. Very excited to be moving closer to obtaining a development permit. Much needed in #Nanaimo. Then we’ll just need the capital to build. 🤞. #bcpoli
