beyond even the road rage and carbon emissions, our reliance on cars is just so harmful to ecosystems. we can't totally undo cars from our world (or can we?); but we can at least invest in wildlife corridors -- including wildlife bridges over highways -- to mitigate our impact on other species

i feel there's been substantial reassessment of the value (or lack thereof) of social media -- maybe it just aggrandizes our our most selfish instincts; maybe it just foments and normalizes hate; but there hasn't been anything similar in reassessing the value (or lack thereof) of cars and driving

if your library subscribes to Hoopla, they have pretty much all of Clifford D. Simak's novels: one of the best of the classic SF authors. i'd recommend WAY STATION or CITY to start

i got tons of free blanks w those max points. (iirc, an XL-II cost 150 points, and each came with 25 points, so it was essentially a "buy 6, get the 7th free" deal.) when you redeemed them, however, they mailed each tape to you in a separate cardboard envelope: a colossal waste of packaging

the NYE gag was the first time i ever heard the song, live or on tape, at my first show in 11+ years; and despite or bc of the EDM goofiness i fell in love. this year's NYE will be my 8th Phish show of 2025
