the work that did not make it into print, or wasn't allowed time to grow and develop, or never got the feedback and peer-review it needed to hone itself. the university and students have suffered and also we have lost so so so many ideas.

what we also lost when everyone who should have received a job - i don't care their demographic - did not get one, was their ideas. white men who can always find other jobs, you know whatever. but the IDEAS we have lost because academia collapsed into adjunctification....

I was always working on a plan B, always always always. But I knew enough to not talk about it with some advisors. I was just not there to be poor, no matter what. I’m still working on plan b! How do I only have one job, said the daughter of an immigrant mother…..

Maybe it’s because I love to read screenplays and I love movies so much. I imagine Mel Brooks won't be far behind. It's unbearable.

I loved Rob Reiner and his father Carl Reiner and their capacious imaginations and their yiddishe sensibilities and their will to make comedy and joy and absurdity livable. I don't know why I feel more gutted by this than any other loss this year.

It is that art makes everything better, and when the artist is also someone who made the world better with even more actions beyond just their art, the loss is compounded by a million.
