Is it better for the Leafs to give Marchand 4x$9M, or for the Panthers to have him at like 3x$6M?
I'm 51% on Florida saving Treliving from himself, but fingers crossed he goes to Utah or back to Boston (where of course he'll knock Toronto out in R1 next year once they rebound)

I actually think the 4 year term could be better than the 8 year term for EDM here, just given the risk profile of defenseman like Bouchard in their 30s.

Suter has been a defensive stud with mid offence for a while though. Agreed that the aav is higher than I would prefer - maybe they get him cheaper on a 4 year deal, but he can play high in the lineup. Plus what's wrong with Artem Anisimov? He was pretty good up until his later years

Are some of the contracts optimistic? Yes. Could you tinker around the margins? Yes. Will Treliving actually do any of this? No.
But I think this is better than going big game hunting. It's more balanced, you have $7.5M in cap space going into the season, and you keep your powder dry for...that guy

What tonight's Leaf victory proved is that if you have a bunch of garbage players who cannot play anywhere in the lineup, you should just shove them together on one line and hope it works out for the best

This stat just blows my mind. This guy is 3rd all time for playoff OT goals and had barely played.
