Why is modern UI like this?

Where is the density?

It's just sooo floaty

lacking structure, lacking hierarchy

Founders are un-hirable

Jobs are designed for people who are good at politics

Businesses on the other hand only answers to market forces

This jarring difference is why founders don't want to return to corporate life

Founders are un-hirable

The only differentiator is taste

The cost of software is 10x lower today than a few years ago

This means there will be 10x more of everything

What wins in this environment?

Taste and vision will make or break companies

The only differentiator is taste

Before AI, everything was 0's and 1's

The limitation is that all logic has to be quantitative

With no room for ambiguity

Now, every layer allows for some ambiguity and unstructured data

This changes all software from the ground up

Everything must be re-thought

Opportunity.

Copywriting, psychology & positioning makes a landing page

Some companies are just confused

They don't know their audience and don't understand their needs/wants

It's a fundamental problem that can't be fixed with more code

You have to start at the psychology

Design is hard because

The search space is infinite

You're trying to categorize chaos

Find form in function

Make something beautiful

But also profitable

And sustainable

It's a balancing act

Having confidence in a path

Finding direction

Is not easy

I really love design

Would do this for free if I didn't have to pay rent

So you built a SAAS and it FAILED

Okay, atleast sell the code for few thousand bucks to reinvest in your next thing!

When you put consistency or design systems over common sense

Here everything has a border radius

Even the border radius has a border radius

Great products are "well considered"

It's very hard to tell which products are great upfront. It's only after long term use, that a product really either proves itself, or disproves itself.

Remember when AI couldn't add a trailing bracket?

You lease this for $300k/year

What business do you start?
November 15, 2025 at 3:01 AM
Designers sell taste

The hardest thing about selling taste is that the client must have it too

The finer things in life are appreciated by fewer and fewer people

This makes the business of design really hard

The better you get, the fewer people you can sell to

Good designers do well in Figma

Great designers do well in prod

The critical point every financial advisor guru moron won't tell you is:

"past performance is no guarantee of future returns"

if I was investing based on past performance, I can buy Bitcoin, why would I buy the S&P?

Are you a good person?

Then start a business

Be the force that does business with ethics

It is imperative you gain power and wealth

And balance out what evil people are doing

"UX design" is a bogus role

You cannot separate UX from Design

All UI design is UX design by default

One that thinks through usability, function, copy, and aesthetic

a UX role alone is a LA LA LAND role

I design like an engineer

I know html, css, tailwind, react, python, node

This allows me to design software that's easy to build

I'm not the best engineer by any means

But having engineering knowledge is a superpower when it comes to design

Anyone else jot down the weather when taking notes?

I usually do date/time/weather/location/project every time I start a new notebook page

It’s fun to go back and see where I was over the year
