Our Somali community in Minnesota is a large, vibrant, hardworking community, the largest Somali community in the US. Over 90% are US citizens; over 50% of those were born here. Support our family/friends/neighbors; support Somali businesses

MN Republican Rep Tom Emmer wants Minnesota to repeal its trans refuge law alleging the shooter at Annunciation school was trans. Following that logic, all white cis men and boys should be removed from the state as they are the vast majority of school shooters. How about removing assault weapons?

“Russia Demands Role in Guaranteeing Ukraine’s Postwar Security” is as brilliant a plan as the fox guarding the hen house…the fox can demand whatever it wants. But the plan should be laughed out of the room.

Yes, we are pleased to think Trump’s downfall may be his pedophilia which now offends his base. But this all is old news & he’s had actual criminal convictions for his sexual misconduct. His base still voted for him. Why does anyone think revelations from the Epstein files matter? He’s a fascist.

Very pleased that Minneapolis DFL convention endorses democratic socialist state senator Omar Fateh for mayor over incumbent Jacob Frey. DFL has been unable to agree on a candidate to endorse since 2009.

@ladylawyerdiary.bsky.social Well, sharing this story about the “olden days”: I was admitted to practice in the first “wave” of women lawyers. In 1982-84, a local judge routinely called women lawyers practicing before him lawyerettes. So we had baseball jackets made with that embroidered on them.

I wanted to share my increased admiration and give thanks to Minnesota AG Keith Ellison. Despite the devastating loss of his colleague and friend Melissa Hortman, and despite being on the assassin’s target list, he bravely showed up and eloquently spoke, encouraging us all to never give up.

Trump continues to look for ways to suppress all opposition. He is on the fine line legally by calling out the National Guard in LA. His executive order used language just barely within the authority of 10 U.S. Code § 12406: impeding ICE = impeding execution of laws. Maintain peaceful resistance!

Yes, tariffs are harming the economy and real folks. Lots of other harms. But let’s keep our eyes on the big picture: our Constitution, separation of powers, defeating fascism. Without a democratic government and the rule of law, the rest doesn’t matter (as much).

#1 Habeas corpus ( Latin for “produce the body/the person”) tells the custodian/the keeper/here immigration, to bring the detained person before the judge and explain what justifies the continued confinement of the person.

It’s important that people from all walks of life and background, and all rational political perspectives, show unity in support of democracy and the rule of law on April 5, somewhere near you. Show your love for your country and for what it should—must—stand for:

April 5th suggestion: Bring a new person with you. Bring that person who agrees that Trump is destroying us, but is scared to go to a demonstration. Bring that person who thinks it doesn’t matter. Let’s double the turnout by each of us bringing one new person.

Yes, I am concerned about the breach of security regarding an attack on Houthis in Yemen. An investigation and charges should be brought. However I am more concerned about the President attacking another country without explicit Congressional authority. Anyone in Congress paying attention?

Just an interesting thought. When violent crimes are committed by immigrants, that is the focus and frenzy. 89% of homicides are committed by people with one prime characteristic: they are MEN. Why don’t we focus on that characteristic? Lock up all men? Just looking at the absurdity.

Inch by inch we watch as safeguards fail. Now we hold our breath as we look to see if one more judge in one more courtroom can protect the Constitution and the rule of law.

Well, Congress gave up acting as a co-equal branch of government. So far the judicial branch still believes in the rule of law and in its powers as the sole interpreter of the law. www.politico.com/news/2025/03...
