Derek trudged through the woods, occasionally stumbling over the more prominent parts in the network of tree roots jutting forth from the forest floor. A particularly bad fall left him grasping at sticks for at least an hour in a failed attempt to find his glasses. The light was quickly receding and his burning anger grew incandescent. "How dare they kick me out? What makes them so damn special?!" He came to a sudden stop. "What was..." The rest of the question lodged itself in his throat, as the sound of a branch cracked not far behind him. His eyes went wide as his breathing grew quick and shallow. Quickly turning to face the origin of the noise, he saw something moving through the trees in the distance.

That night they continued their journey through the depths of the forest. As the sun rose, the group stopped in a clearing surrounded by tall trees with branches favorable for climbing. Riva took off her belt and wrapped it around the base of a sturdy tree, holding one end in each hand. Slowly she began scaling the trunk of the tree until she reached the first branch. Pulling herself higher and higher, she cleared the canopy before noting their progress - Closer to the river than the foot of the mountain. Not yet beyond the boundaries of the woods. She sighed and began her descent to the forest floor. Soon.

Before writing I do what I can to make my space clear and comfortable, in addition to opening the curtains so that I can enjoy the natural light. Staying warm is key, so there's always a blanket and cup of chai within reach.

I count myself VERY fortunate to call this my writing spot.

For the record: there is no shame in admitting that you've been harmed by another person - that's something that kept me silent about this for too long. The silence caused its own harm.

Thankfully, it really is true that time heals all wounds: metaphorical and literal.

A lot can happen in a year.

She heard a twig snap somewhere not far behind her. Turning swiftly, she stepped head-first into Isa's path. He lifted his arms above his head to protect something that he clasped gently between his hands. "I have something for you." "Oh, have you, now?" He stifled a grin and playfully imitated her accent. The questioning continued through the afternoon. By the time he had the opportunity to glance at the clock it was well past six in the evening.
