@seattledot.bsky.social the pattern continues on this healthy street by Seattle U (13th and Columbia). Not only is daylighting failing here, but the "street closed" signs and barrels seem to be used as an invitation to park. And the crosswalks are in awful shape.

Note the fresh coat of paint. Under the Harrell regime, even the rubble of burned down buildings must be free from graffiti (Asian Plaza site, Little Saigon).

@seattledot.bsky.social I wanted to share these photos with you of the Stay Healthy St at 13th and Columbia (see also Google Street View at 12th and Columbia). Crosswalks are badly faded, daylighting nonexistent or not working, and the orange barrels kind of hidden. Something isn't working here!

So tired of one of the very few pedestrianized* blocks in our street being used for parking with no consequences. On a Mariners (playoff) and Seahawks gameday! FWIW, Lexus, BMW, Tesla, Volvo, SPD pickup truck.

Such a good opening. And such an apt description of how we impoverish the whole city in order to treat homelessness, poverty, mental illness, and addiction as aesthetic blights not moral blights (and to keep the police from taking their ball and going home).
'The bathrooms aren’t for you anymore. The parks aren’t for you anymore. Good luck finding a trash can at a light rail station, or getting comfortable on a bench while a metal armrest stabs into your ribs. Your other seating options require $6 for over-sour coffee or surveillance from an underpaid librarian whose unofficial second job is now social worker. The bus shelters don’t shelter, the park closes at 10, and the street is a Ring doorbell showroom. But at least we’re solving the “homeless problem.”'

I'm sad to see that the recent repainting on Yesler didn't include inside lines for the bike lanes. Moreover, I don't see the sense in maintaining this parking where cars are constantly being broken into, though I imagine it's used most by people with few resources.

I can't make public comment next week, so I sent this to @council.seattle.gov. Seattle needs to take this opportunity to enable the construction of vastly more housing throughout the city.

Typed text, reading: Members of Council, Housing is the answer to so many questions facing the city. If you are disheartened by human waste in public spaces, you should give people homes in which to relieve themselves. If you don't want tents in public parks, the answer is vastly more housing. If you feel that visible homelessness and poverty is an aesthetic blight, you should enable the construction of vastly more housing. If you are worried about Seattle's budget woes but don't want to raise taxes, the answer is to allow more housing per square mile of roads, utilities, and public services. If you are concerned about retail vacancy, grocery closures, and pharmacy deserts, one answer is to house many more potential customers all over the city. If you lament a lack of civic unity, you should invite neighbors of every race and class into every neighborhood. If you worry about transit funding, you should house more people within walking distance of bus and train routes. If you want more eyes on the street to prevent crime, allow more and denser housing. If you fear displacement in minority neighborhoods, you should ensure that wealthier, whiter neighborhoods welcome more neighbors. If you feel that mass homelessness is a humanitarian catastrophe, the answer is vastly more housing. I urge you to pass amendments 7, 33, 34, versions C of amendments 43, 46, 47, 48 & 49, amendments 54-59, 60, 61, 63, 65-67, 70, 73, 74, 76, 78, 79, 82, 84, 87, 89, 90, 91, 95, 96, 98, 104.

Hi @seattledot.bsky.social. Can you tell me anything about this crosswalk at 10th and Jefferson? The paint has now faded to the point of being all but invisible and cars routinely park on the x-walk at the north end. Still shows as an official crosswalk on maps and I think it's really useful! 🛑 plz?

Why aren't Seattle's mayoral candidates talking about the issue on everyone's minds? When is this business called Egg² finally going to open and why is it so delayed?

I, and I assume all of Seattle, have been waiting.
