My plan to unplug for the evening is being updated. Replacing sports with tea and peanut butter cookies.

It’s still pretty nice out there, so cram in as much fall as you can. It’s the crunchy blue sky time of year.

What stood out most about Jaws in the theatre was how quiet much of the movie is. We all know the famous theme - duh duh, duh duh - yet so many action sequences on the water have no music. Just the sound of waves, luring us right onto that boat.

It’s brilliant, the way silence says so much.

This was 100% worth the 12-hour drive. Thank you @nin.com for always delivering some of the best live shows in history and to our friends who made us feel so at home.

The Joy of Movement, my review: “ugh”.

I wanted to like this book, but oh boy is it frustrating. #booksky

I’d like a temporary ban on thought leaders talking about evolution as if it has godlike intentionality, as if traits found in modern humans prove we’re “designed” to be this way.

“An unrecorded life”.

I struggled with this book, the gossipy small-town vibes, the way trauma was used as a narrative crutch.

But I do find this phrase interesting, particularly in the social media era.

What does it mean to lead an unrecorded life? And does it have to be sad?

Before I started growing flowers on my balcony, I thought a flower was *a* flower: you’d plant it in the spring; it would show its pretty face until fall.

I know now that blooms are signs of continual renewal. All summer long, blooms die, new buds form, new blooms arrive. One plant: many flowers.

Finished Wandering Stars by Tommy Orange this week and I can't stop thinking about it. I loved There There, and this was a difficult (but necessary?) sequel. His writing guts me every time.

This is a real ad, screenshotted from another social media platform. I would like to point out that in the "better" scenario, the speaker is no longer addressing humans--they're addressing inanimate animal-shaped objects. I'm so confused.

If you feel a desire for beautiful sentences and (justified) feminine rage, I highly recommend this one: When Women Were Dragons.

It’s sweet yet politically charged and scratches an itch.
