Spent 3 hours setting up a printer (a 2015 model of Xerox).

Only to find out that the drivers only go to Windows 10.

And every computer in this clinic runs on Windows 11.

It’s so wild that I actually get mornings to sleep in now.

What do you mean I don’t always have to get up at 7 am?

There was an old tweet that said something like, "Rage Against the Machine never specified just what kind of machine it was that they were raging against, but I reckon it was probably a printer", and that old tweet accurately characterises my last 48 hours or so.

TBH writing Eryn is what helped me make it through my own traumatic time - she holds such a special place in my heart!

I felt my age yesterday when two of the staff at my job said they brain dumped emails, and then used AI to edit for clarity, tone, and length.

I offered to review their emails and give pointers. They politely declined.

And then I reflected on how worried I am about AI in this form.

Kind and straightforward reminder: It is not helpful to Southern states, including TX, to call everyone who lives there less intelligent or any variation on the term.

When I see these comments, I also gather that they view less intelligent people as less valuable - which is ableism.

I always pay attention to what stories People Magazine and other consumer media outlets cover. That's how you can tell that something has broken through the usual political and news bubbles. This horrific Chicago story has broken through. people.com/ice-agents-o...

There’s something great about taking a break from large novels and instead going back to your roots.

And by roots I mean writing Zutara fanfic on A03.

Apparently doomscrolling because your nose is stuffed at 5 am and you can’t sleep is an account-suspending offense, according to Meta.

So I guess I’m doomscrolling Bluesky now.

(I’ve appealed because I’ve worked hard on that account!)

I don’t think brain chips are a viable innovation - so I wrote about Eryn, a mid-20s woman who had a brain chip put in her mind without consent as a baby. She was made into a cyborg, and treated like a robot.

A regular philodendron: Not a ton of light, but a bit of water please!

My philodendron: Water, mother, please, for I am made of thirst. [Proceeds to drink too much and attempts to get root rot, causing me to rescue mission it into another pot].

We have a potential shutdown.

DOI is about to share RIF plans with us.

We don’t have enough staff/budget already. It’s horrible.

Now Mr. “Trauma is the point” is suggesting anyone not funded during a shutdown will be subject to a Reduction in force (terminated)? I am nauseous.
Hardball:
“This time, OMB Director Russ Vought is using the threat of permanent job cuts as leverage, upping the ante in the standoff with Democrats in Congress over government spending.”

Please, please, please:

1) reach out to your Congressionals
2) talk to everyone you know and help them understand the government services they will lose
3) support any federal employee you know right now. This is really hard.
