This is probably the case.
Considering the fact EoSD characters are designed more similar to PC 98 ones. In sense that they have the vibe of ""Look at what manga, or piece of media I recently saw"".

On a related note; you can easily tell when someone has only played the lower difficulties for Ten desires (or they recite common dogmas to it), without them stating/showing it.
Because saying "Ten desires is the most easy game" only applies to the lower difficulties, absolutely not for higher ones.
