Still thinking about this make it stop

Anyway. I hope this show changes television. And I hope this book changes publishing. We make pretty freaking extraordinary content here in Canada, and perhaps the change I want most of all is that everyone, us included, will stop forgetting that.

Massive shoutout, btw, to the show for having screening afterparties at romance-exclusive bookstores, with book signings not only by the author but also the two stars.

It's like everybody knew this show is a BOOK EVENT not just a television event...

Except the publisher.

It takes time to print books. For sure. But the trailer dropped in October and the response was IMMEDIATE. Harlequin is an established player (um, understatement). They should have seen that global response and immediately ordered a gazillion books, which would have been ready when the show launched

The book's author, Nova Scotian Rachel Reid, was at the red carpet screenings of the show in Montreal & Toronto. She's in lots of the social media + trad media coverage leading up to the launch of the series. The two stars and the established director shout out to her, and her to them, constantly.

So maybe the pub really REALLY underestimated the impact the show would have. Which means they either severely underestimated the quality and reach a Canadian production could have, or they what? Didn't think an adaptation with the author's involvement would lead to book sales??

My most benign guess is that the pub hedged their bets and/or underestimated the reach of a Canadian show. There are real (bad) consequences to over-printing a book.

But there's no way to look at this option as anything other than naive. These people know romance and they know this book has FANS...

From what I understand, the paperback is sold out everywhere. Which continues this bit as a publishing story. WHY is this book sold out everywhere? I have some ideas.
December 1, 2025 at 5:50 PM
It's a story of how this is a Canadian-made series that was only picked up for international distribution after the trailer went bonkers in Oct. & fans everywhere started screaming for the show. Two days after the first two episodes dropped, HEATED RIVALRY was the #1 Kindle book on Amazon. AND
