the only times i feel word bubbles have really caught my eye were because of how/where they were framing the page/panel rather than what the bubble itself looked like. Or maybe Tezuka's creatively vast ways he's explored bubbles but 99% of the time he ALSO kept them simple because it just works!

To iron this point home, ive read like a lot of comics in my life. I basically have never remembered a word bubble that was "really good" that lived in my heart forever, its always been what was said that will haunt and change me. Drive me to make art, ect.

Simple, even crude, will always read better to me than overdone with bells & whistles. I also personally dislike when word bubbles/text are colored, but there's some exceptions to this. I just tend to prefer black/white comics in general.

Often, the best word bubbles to me fade into the story and only stand out when signaling something important. If you care more about the visuals of a word bubble than what’s being said inside them, I think it shows. Don’t have the two elements compete for the readers experience.

i think i read the manga around 2010-2012? and felt even then it was.. weirdly hateful and mean spirited, even while being praised for the opposite reasons. the author probably had good intentions but uhhh i hated it haha. i never finished reading it.

lol i hated that one too.. i only read a bit of it like idk over a decade ago but it still left a bad taste in my mouth. a lot of things in it pissed me off!!!!!!!
