I bet Zohran could charm Trump into giving him the presidency.

Also I don't know anything about mint however, if you want a recommendation, start with Fedora Plasma. Especially if you're a video game enjoyer, Plasma is what SteamOS uses and it plays games flawlessly. And Fedora is rock solid. Otherwise, just let yourself have fun and linux wikis are your friend

My ONLY tip here is don't put Linux's root on the same disk as the Windows OS. Windows is very greedy about the bootloader and can fuck your linux boot.
But if you got a spare disk, you can slap it on there and you're good to go.

So for weaker machines, you're simply gonna see a huge performance boost which means faster load times, less system hangups, and more time spent doing your work. I put linux on a tiny laptop and it just boots up, and it can run krita, blender, you name it, perfectly fine.
November 22, 2025 at 9:19 PM
And then there's just stuff like, Linux is more performant than Windows. The available file systems do better compression, so you have more disk space. Software runs faster and more efficiently.
Hell, my entire DESKTOP ENVIRONMENT uses ~300MB, and that's WITH fancy widgets and whatnot.
November 22, 2025 at 9:19 PM
I did this opportunity cost of time against Windows itself. The amount of time I lost on Windows due to software crashes, the desktop environment itself crashing, drivers crashing, forced reboots, slow startup times, relearning updates, relearning changed UIs... it's faster to learn Linux.
November 22, 2025 at 9:15 PM
"But I don't want to learn a new opera-" *SLAPS YOU* STFU YES YOU DO it's SO MUCH FUN to learn Linux because it's SUCH A BREATH OF FRESH AIR. IT'S WORTH YOUR TIME because you NEVER have to fix Microshit's fuckups EVER AGAIN.

Once you get your system running how you like, IT STAYS THAT WAY

You want to install Discord? You just type "install discord"
You want to install Steam? You just type "install steam"
You want to install Elden Ring? You just click "install Elden Ring"

You want to update your computer? You just type "update". ON YOUR OWN TIME, YOUR OWN SCHEDULE.

THERE'S NO FUSS
November 22, 2025 at 8:56 PM
and NO installing software on Linux isn't some complex you-need-to-know-terminal-code black magic. You just install the software with a CLICK OF A BUTTON. AND ITS FREE. AND YOU DONT HAVE TO INSTALL IT FROM SOME SLOW BUGGY WEBSITE THE INSTALLER IS ALREADY ON YOUR PC SO YOU KNOW ITS LEGIT AND SAFE
November 22, 2025 at 8:54 PM
No broken features. No bullshit systems. No hidden buried config options behind 3 context menus. No "would you like to rate this app". No showing me ads while I use software. No "please renew your subscription to use this software". No "windows explorer has crashed"
IT JUST RUNS. IT JUST WORKS
November 22, 2025 at 8:54 PM
My computer JUST WORKS.
I push power button, it turns on. It boots into a SIMPLE login screen. No personal data or widgets cluttering it. I put in password. It logs in, INSTANTLY. No wait. No pop ups. No update reminders. Literally waiting for my next command.
November 22, 2025 at 8:54 PM
No you're not. That's lazy talk. Yes, you will have to relearn some stuff. But you'll learn quicker than you think, and the payoff is VERY WORTH IT. I only been using Linux for about a year and I'm better at it than I ever was at Windows. It's because the OS will NEVER fight you.

I'm just saying, given what Nazis did to Jews in their camps, it would not surprise me one bit if it turned out to be true.

Combine this with the new suspicion that ICE detainees are being shipped to facilities near neurology research facilities so Neuralink can perform inhumane experiments on their brains, you start to realize how scary it is that you could be swept off the street and never see the light of day again
November 22, 2025 at 12:20 AM
And everytime I have to tinker with my system, it's not because I'm trying to disable some new bullshit feature or a fix a bug that company put out yet again without QA testing it - it's because I'm joyfully tinkering my system to make it behave how I want, to add new features, to speed up workflows
November 21, 2025 at 3:41 PM
It was genuinely worth the effort, worth the switch - to be able to flip on my PC and it simply boots into my desktop, waiting for my next command. No update messages, no overnight updates, no popups asking for money. Just a blank screen, waiting for me to open my art software and get to work.
November 21, 2025 at 3:41 PM
Yea I mean had Linux installed in a single evening, was able to install a bunch of free and suckless software that week, and sure it took me about a month to get familiar with the system, and half a year to become an expert, but I dont ever have to worry about shitty Win shittifying my system
