While this is not our final art style, it's so cool to see how far our talented artist, Simon, has come.

Simon, our talented artist, has been working on rendering and art pipeline. This piece is of a Banumarin. Inspired by the North African Amazigh, the Banumarin are a noble, agile faction who know the desert like the back of their hand.

WIP concept by our talented artist, Simon. The Reddin faction are loosely based on 16th-19th Century Ottoman pirates, and they're one of our favourites: Swashbuckling yet honourable, they bring a lot of chaos to our tactical roguelike deckbuilder.

Hello :) It's been a while. We've been cooking. For a while we thought the design of our tactical roguelike deckbuilder was "the bed we made" & we'd have to lay in it. But inspiration struck recently & we decided to solve some of our core design problems. Read on👇🧵(1/7)

We’ve been experimenting with control-style decks in our North African–inspired sci-fi roguelike deckbuilder.

Our latest addition, Entangle, blocks enemy reinforcements for a turn, giving you the breathing room to regroup and set up your next big play! #TurnBasedThursday

We've been cooking up new cards for our North African–inspired sci-fi roguelike deckbuilder.

Recently, we experimented with a control-style deck. One standout was Stun—a powerful ability that can come in clutch when needing to disable an enemy unit temporarily. #TurnBasedThursday

We’ve been cranking out cards for our North African–inspired sci-fi roguelike deckbuilder, and found that it was getting trickier to keep track of all the data.

So using UIToolkit we whipped up a slick tabular view of every card—seriously impressed by how fast it came together!

The team took a beat to refactor code and tighten up our design workflows—now we’re back to building new content for our North African–inspired sci-fi tactical roguelike deckbuilder!

While we’re cooking up more content, check out some in-progress art featuring the game’s factions.

We have a simple HP + Block stat called “Guard” in our tactical roguelike deckbuilder. It helps make our one-screen game clean & elegant.

But “Temporary Guard”, which a unit loses when it leaves the board, has been confusing. Our updated UI should fix that. #turnbasedthursday

We’ve been tweaking and extending a run for our North African-inspired sci-fi tactical roguelike deckbuilder to amp up pacing and improve enemy variety.

Plus, here are fresh sketches from our talented Simon, where he's playing with simple yet striking lighting to make them pop!

Our talented sound designer, Lars Dahl, has been experimenting with SFX for our North African-inspired sci-fi tactical roguelike deckbuilder!

Check out these SFX variants as he explores how far he can push into the sci-fi sound space while keeping a balance with realistic foley.

Playtests of our tactical roguelike deckbuilder revealed that card draw felt too slow early on.

So we're testing a new rule: start with a full hand, then only draw when there's room — offering more choices early while preventing hand bloat late game.

A silhouette of units from our North African-inspired tactical roguelike deckbuilder, by our talented artist, Simon! 🎨

Simon uses these quick silhouettes to make sure each faction has an instantly readable identity.

In our tactical roguelike deckbuilder, each row has its own HP, making positioning more strategic.

But what would units in dead rows target? This question led to some awkwardness.

Our fav solution: a main hub behind the rows that must be destroyed to win.

Our talented artist, Simon, wanted the pattern work in his sketches to feel more cohesive with the identity of each faction in our tactical roguelike deckbuilder.

So, he’s been exploring different pattern designs to better capture each faction's unique North African identity.

We're shifting from free card movement (like Wildfrost) to a more deliberate positioning system in our roguelike deckbuilder.

But we still wanted players to have a mechanism to reposition their units, so we've been playing with the idea of movement cards.

Hey @darenn.bsky.social ! 👋

Thanks for hosting this week's #TurnBasedThursday!

This week we’re experimenting with movement cards in our tactical roguelike deckbuilder, starting with a Swap Row card that lets players reposition their deployed units on the board.

We’re prototyping movement cards this week for our upcoming roguelike deckbuilder, starting with a Swap Row card.

Players can use this card to reposition units by swapping the rows on which they were deployed, adding a new layer of tactical decision-making.

We were inspired by Wildfrost's free card movement when designing our tactical roguelike deckbuilder. But playtesting has us rethinking its impact on tactical depth.

So we’re now exploring limiting movement to make positioning more deliberate and strategic.

We’re kicking off the new year by adding more fun cards to our upcoming roguelike deckbuilder!

Say hello to the Jester! While waiting in the encounter row, it takes potshots at your units. Clear the row fast—or brace for the Jester’s relentless mischief !🤡

In our tactical roguelike deckbuilder, the reserves column is a healing zone & your draw/discard pile. Playtests showed players often missed moving units there, so we added The Diplomat: a card that grants influence (mana) when moved from the board to reserves.
