I think you have it. I read a bit about the Code Talkers and they coined the term "iron fish" for submarine, which until then they lacked. So why not "angry fish" while they're at it?

Well yeah, mutton is an English word for sheep meat, clearly derived from mouton (or a common root). The whole "Latin" thing above is a bit imprecise; the derivations of English meat words are Norman French.
