Kitty's Clause (B. Holmström)
@kittysclause.bsky.social
Grad student of theology and writer. Longing for Japanese trucks, mechs, sensible zoning laws, God’s justice, and the cold embrace of Canadian winter.
Haha, I didn’t consider that folks wouldn’t know what that was. I presume you know now but I’m talking about playing a shooter game online.

Not related to this post at all, but I was looking at this inbetween Halo matchmaking and was very confused where the audio was coming from. I thought someone on my team was playing Danielle smith clips over voice chat.

Yeah, that’s about the size of it

Perhaps I should amend that to UCP voters aren’t a monolith.

I think the political reality of Alberta is that there are actually two strands of conservatives here, but they’re both so afraid of the NDP after Notley proved they could win that they refuse to acknowledge that the UCP isn’t a monolith.

Ugh, thank you. I hate endnotes so much.

I have this dynamic regularly with some friends of mine in my charismatic crowds. Theology = dead in the spirit to them. Then they go on to talk about their recent ideas about the nature of the spiritual and I just sort of wave my arms in frustration.

Esp. among more secular crowds. Many people seem to think that theology has no impact, or at least a negligible impact, on our public lives. I realize I probably have an inflated view because it’s what I spend my time thinking and writing about. But that doesn’t mean the critique is false.

Yeah it’s tricky. Because people have been so trained to think of disciplines like philosophy as abstract stuff for nerdy folk. When really they’re just blind to how commonly we engage with it (and usually not in a particularly educated manner). Similar goes for theology (my bias might be showing)

I usually say the lower mainland.

I have one. I play a lot of RPGs and action games. Metaphor re:fantazio, Disco Elysium, Armoured Core 6, Sekiro, Hollow Knight are a few I’ve played recently. I also use it for emulation once and awhile. My wife was playing through Pokémon Colosseum on it a few months back.

When the oil industry inevitably crashes because of the superior economics of solar and nuclear in the future all of this is going to have aged like milk. Then we'll curse the feds again for our fate, and the cycle will continue.

Alberta and Quebec both seem to be trying to play chicken with the Canadian constitution and I am so very tired of it.

I’m curious how this is going to hold up under court review. Because there’s not a shot that doesn‘t violate the charter of rights and freedoms. The threat is that they’ll use nonwithstanding clause to suspend those rights for a period of time. But I don’t see how this pans out long term at all.

Dang, that sounds like a colourful evening.

I get the “ha you have you suffer this too!” Attitude on instinct. But social expectations of masculinity have been this way as long as one can imagine. Men and women are hurt by patriarchal attitudes, there’s no need to make this about opposing sides.
November 26, 2025 at 5:50 PM
That is a very surface level read though. There are far deeper running issues of misogyny and such going on. I just notice this is a silly stupid thing that happens.

I think part of why guys don’t is literally that it has the word “fem” in the name. That alone in my experience is enough to turn guys off of learning about it because it’s now instantly perceived as a thing for girls. Kind of a circular issue.
November 26, 2025 at 4:52 PM
It really does illustrate that for some reason in our culture the very concept of “masculinity” is something that is exceptionally fragile. I’ve heard people explain their theories on why, but I’ve yet to hear one that actually represents what it feels like we men do to ourselves.
November 26, 2025 at 4:47 PM
If I didn’t care at all about how others perceive me (Or didn’t have to care). I would probably just choose what I like. But there are tangible negative effects to falling outside those norms sometimes. less so than in grade 6, but still quite tangible.
November 26, 2025 at 4:47 PM
I just manage to accidentally fulfill the smaller things. I prefer fruitier drinks, I do lick ice cream cones (I didn’t know about that one either). But man, it gets exhausting thinking about what is going to be perceived as unmasculine.
November 26, 2025 at 4:47 PM
I’ve spent most of my life railing against these sorts of norms. I’ve always managed to stumble outside them. But even for me it gets pretty ingrained. I quite like the way painted nails and earrings look, but there’s some kid in my head from grade 6 screaming “GAY!” anytime I consider wearing them

I have my own thoughts, but I think its probably for the Indigenous community to work out what this means.
