Driven asks people to vote for people's choice for NZ car of the Year... And there's not a single actual car amongst the options. There's one van and 9 SUVs/Utes.

Wtf is wrong with people. Not a single actual car in the entire top 10 of cars sold. Only tanks that should be banned in cities

Great thing about Avondale is seeing some goth kids get pani puri from an Indian street food stall at 11pm on a Friday night.

My hot take is that Zohran won because he's a good politician. Bad politicians lose elections. It only took me 20 years in politics to come to this conclusion. There's very highly paid journos and consultants who have not figured this out.

The real losers tonight (and every other night) are the lukewarm centrists who always want us to meet the other side halfway.

Zohran Mamdani is a trained performer who has an extremely disciplined and laser-focused ability to recite on-message talking points in response to any question, and yet voters overwhelming praise him as being especially "authentic" compared to other politicians. There's a lesson here!

1/ A longtime Wired editor just wrote a mush-brained essay about how he totally missed the political rot of Silicon Valley (& still doesn't get it).

But in the late 1990s, a Wired journalist warned of a toxic ideology bubbling up from tech. Paulina Borsook has largely been erased. Let's change that

I wonder if there's a bit of self reflection from some people in the media on how they treat orgs like the free speech union, who clearly don't care about free speech. So many of us have been yelling at them not to take their claims at face value.

Who are the free speech guys going to silence next for saying things they don't like.

Three days of the Condor is fantastic (if a little bit problematic in some parts). It's worth a watch in honour of Robert Redford. Not his most famous movie but often overlooked.

Feel free to continue arguing over the shooter's motives, but please understand that *it doesn't matter*.

There's a organized political movement that plans to suppress, arrest, or kill its political opposition. It it seeking pretexts. Anything will do. If it's not this, it'll be something else.

It's really hard to explain to normies who wish things were more authoritarian coz they want more efficiency and competence, that authoritarian regimes are actually in practice extremely incompetent at almost everything and extremely inefficient. Democracies actually being order. The Empire doesn't

Pretty sure the Free Speech guys will say nothing about this, and if they do it'll be pro firing the guy for his speech.

Q: My condolences on the loss of your friend Charlie Kirk. How are you holding up?

TRUMP: I think very good. And by the way, right there you see all the trucks. They just started construction of the new ballroom for the White House, which is something they've been trying to get for about 150 years.

This is simply untenable. There is no way forward with media and political classes captured by the right. Every time someone commits a crime you have to pray it's not an undesirable or it's purge time, then when it turns out to be themselves again they just shrug and wait for the next one.

The fact that right-wingers commit the vast bulk of domestic terrorism in the US is well-established by numerous expert investigations & reports.

But the right *accuses* the left more often, makes more *noise* about it, so they've bullied reporters into framing this as a "both sides" problem.

After owning a Skoda for a few months I totally get why the police chose them. They are extremely comfortable seats if you're planning on spending a lot of time in a car. Much more so that the sportier and newer Peugeot that's our primary car. Also they have just insane amounts of boot space.
