I forgot that I hadn’t posted this here. THE POWER FANTASY 13 is out. Available from comic shops and (er) some digital retailers, but probably not the one you’re thinking of.

Myself, @casparw.bsky.social and @stephaniehans.bsky.social are at Tbubz next weekend, all close together, in the Comixology Hall. Come say hello. Buy stuff, get stuff signed, have a lovely time.

Read WHO KILLED NESSIE? by Paul Cornell and Rachael Smith over lunch. Charming, cryptid muder-mystery, with real heart and real fortean knowledge in that John-Allison-adjacent space I always like to see. This is the Avery Hill edition, but I got the Zoop crowdfunder.

Finally got to Patrick Horvath’s Beneath The Trees Where Nobody Sees, which was as good as everyone says. Cute animal art filter over territorial serial killer story. Turns out shitting is the least concerning thing bears do in the woods.

Halloween (weekend) horror. I caught a shot of this on socials and it got beneath my skin enough to make us find the time to watch the prequel so we could watch this. Absolutely worth it. Goth does a superstar performance here, aesthetically dancer in the dark with the violence turned outwards.

Just setting up the Script Club mail for later - should be going out around 7pm UK time, I think. It's DIE #1's v1.1 script. so if you want it, sign up before then. Details here!

I may not have teased this out enough, but these are the bits I'd nod towards. If the setting is the primary turn on, I'm not turned on. The system is the proof the designer understands their fiction. The "takes me to a place I couldn't get to reliably by myself" is also key.

Starting running Mythic Bastionland on Tuesday, and sorting out the map. This is the player facing one. I look at this and think "Yes, this is what my mum thinks an RPG looks like."

I read The Last American before bed last night. I needed another reason bar my 3 year old to have disturbed sleep. Absolutely nuclear war paranoia period piece, redolent of all of that. A showcase for a later period Mick McMahon, classic 2000AD's most vivid stylist, inching ever more abstract.
