Dublin 15, Ireland. Nobody wants to read what I write once they’ve read what I’ve written. I assuredly will write it. I also post occasionally about coding, bird-feeding, photos of things, cycling, and drawing (once in a while). He/him

I have a device fob for my partner to be able to locate me when I’m away or cycling for peace of mind (as in, that nothing has happened to me), but very unreliable. When I’m out cycling I always send a Strava link so that I’m traceable if I get hit by a car or fall into the canal or something.

Ok, so maybe the cynicism isn't so warranted. It's way of getting railways back into use for rural communities with less transport options, who don't need a full-size railway service. The marketing makes it look like a luxury bro service, but it's much more like a rail bus (such the Pacer in the UK)

In fact, they haven't even invented it. The original was built and demonstrated 122 years ago: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gyro_mo... - bros just keep reinventing the bus.

Cynicism aside, maybe it's a cost effective way to restart low capacity two-way usage of existing but disused railway lines.

The quality of driving is lower, and people are no longer heeding any rules, by an large. It's free for all. I think it doesn't help that junction timings seem to me to have been extended to compensate (rewarding risk taking), and with more electric or part-electric cars, things happen more quickly.

I tried to go tubeless a couple of times on my mountain bike but it was messy hell and I’ve settled on using TPU tubes instead.

I recently switched back from the low rolling resistance Vittoria gravel tyres I had on my bike to put the stock Schwalbe tyres back on and it was… hard work, to put it mildly. I guess the thinking is that you should go tubeless and you won’t take them off again, but seriously though.

I was wondering because it wasn’t a sort of raucous, rock and roll event, but still. Situation politely but firmly clarified.

I went to a friend’s gig in the NCH (in the Studio, an admittedly small and informal space) recently and someone was filming it on their phone, and an usher came and put a stop to it.

Oh, and discovered that hot soapy water with citric acid crystals is magic for bike chains, if some rust has appeared.

So the plan for next year is to participate in some gravel sportives, I have four picked out starting in March to October or so, and I hope to build it up from 60 km to 125 km, and lose 10-15 kg in the process. It’s a tall order. I’m not getting out enough to achieve that.
