If only my record-room still looked that tidy
Baudelaire, Yvette Mimieux, Ali Akbar Khan? That's a mad idea is it not? Turns out it was a great idea. According to Nat Hentoff the idea to record Baudelaire came from Yvette Mimieux. Ali Akbar Khan was in the room at the time and was asked if he would be interested in providing musical settings.

Perfect music for this cold, wet, and windy autumn day. Sounds just like the cover looks. Tetuzi Akiyama and Michel Henritzi- Shinjuko No Kage. The two electric guitarists drift through three reverberant and melancholy scenes in pleasing fashion.

We planted Liquidambar 'Worplesdon' about 20 years ago and at this time of year you really get a most beautiful leaf drop.

This Pharoah Sanders live CD is a real stunner. There's a version of 'Ole' on here that gives me goosebumps.

I can hardly believe I took this photograph only 3 weeks ago. We sit under blankets of an evening now.

Perhaps you should go into record sleeve design?

Any of these hard-bitten characters turn up in it?

Big house just up the road sold off some land a few years ago for house building. Smallish house built, but there was a tree that had to stay.

Photographing Phlox paniculata Barci, our best Phlox, and was delighted to see a Hummingbird Hawk Moth. We often have them in the evening, but I've not seen one flying during the day.

Nobody told this Ipomea, or the Begonia, that they shouldn't be growing out of a gap in the paving.

I usually select a record I want to listen too and that suggests another, and so on. This weekend I just randomly pulled out some records to play whilst I was in the kitchen. These be they. I'm hardly ever near my 'proper' record player these days; like everything else it's most unsatisfactory.

This is a kind of torture. Whenever I see these cats I want to get another cat, but I can't have another cat.

Sleep on my old friend.

Some Penguin Modern European Poets. Probably picked up quite a few of these at Skoob Books when it was in Sicilian Avenue. Osip Mandelstam 85p. Yehuda Amichai was a highlight. Another world, another life.

That is Jerry Jeff Walker. The back cover is similar. Contains the original version of 'Mr Bojangles' which he played live on the radio whilst a little the worse for wear on drink. The DJ can hardly believe it, "you wrote that"! www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PdU...

Snap- could do with a spare shelf.

Ela Laboriel 'Sin Final' ('Senza Fine) a jaunty version on the Mexican Musart label. Peggy Lee does it best and her version is quite the most beautiful of them all, but this little 7" is still a treat. A version of 'Call Me' on the A side so it's win win. #nowplaying

Damn! If it had been that would have been like a sacred relic for me. I'd have scoured it for little curly hairs. I love Donat, but for me there's only one Hannay. On a similar theme I bought a Brotherhood of Ruralists type painting years ago and was told it came from Anita Harris.
