Alt text 1 of 2 Helen Stickler I'm seeing some misinformation and confusion about the expiring ACA credits. These are not the premium tax credits (PTC) that were put in place when the ACA was passed back in 2010 and enacted in 2014. These were *enhanced* premium tax credits, that were a gift from Joe Biden under the American Rescue Plan Act in 2021, later extended through the Inflation Reduction Act until the end of 2025. These credits temporarily expanded eligibility and increased the amount of financial assistance for health insurance premiums. Now those are going away, just as they had been scheduled to. In 2017, the GOP passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA), which benefitted high-income earners by giving them lower tax rates and increased deductions. These were set to expire in late 2025, but since the GOP got a trifecta in the last election, they gleefully extended them in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act of 2025. To nobody's surprise, the issue of also extending Joe Biden's ACA expansion was never even discussed by the ruling party. When the Democrats decided to participate in the shutdown, they needed a wedge issue to justify all the pain that would be inflicted on Government workers, etc. They very wisely went back to Joe Biden's ACA *enhanced* premium tax credits, and put them on the table again. They did this from a position of no power and no leverage. Now the game of chicken is coming to an end. Rumor has it, some Democrats in the Senate are going to vote to end the shutdown. I am seeing a LOT of people pouting and shouting "they caved! they always cave!" This is frankly ridiculous. The idea that the GOP would extend Joe Biden's ACA expansion was never going to happen and everyone knew it. I knew it, they knew it. If you are squealing and pouting now, I guess you are the only one who didn't know it. Alt text 2 of 2. The point was to make the GOP go on RECORD and be very VISIBLY responsible for the pain in people's pocketbook when the credits will indeed expire on December 31, 2025. To that end, their plan worked quite masterfully. People's healthcare will get more expensive in fewer than 2 months, and they will know exactly who to blame. The Dems were also supposedly able to negotiate a floor vote on the ACA expansion extension which will put the GOP on record as voting against healthcare for many of their constituents. So, I am going to need you Debbie Downers to put your big girl panties on and take a look at the facts. The Dems did not cave. They did exactly what they set out to do, given the limited options they had. Stop expecting your party to perform miracles, and then acting like a whiny little baby when they can't. Elections have consequences.

I see the incredibly awful racism here, but I want to point out that this pervasive notion that only paid work is work is breaking us.

Caregiving is work. Getting an education is work. Volunteering is work. People put effort, time, emotional and mental energy into all kinds of important things.

I broke and offered to foster her.

I miss having a cat so much. But I still have a $7k plumbing repair in my future.

Names are listed alphabetically. SECTIONS PDF TOOLS SHARE Abstract America's judicial system is both exceptionally punitive and demonstrably unjust toward racial minorities. While these dual realities are structured into America's institutions, we propose they are also partially sustained by the intersection of ideologies that are both racialized and sacralized. Using multiple waves of the General Social Surveys and a unique measure that asks Americans to choose between two forms of judicial injustice (wrongful conviction or erroneous acquittal), we examine how white racial identity intersects with biblical literalism to bolster America's bent toward unjust punitiveness. In the main effects, Americans who affirm biblical literalism are more likely to show a preference for convicting the innocent, as are whites compared to Black Americans. Examining interaction effects, however, we find whiteness moderates the influence of biblical literalism such that only white biblical literalists (as opposed to non-white biblical literalists or white non-biblical literalists) are more likely to prefer wrongful conviction. Indeed, in our full model, being a white biblical literalist is the strongest predictor of preferring wrongful conviction. We theorize that preference for wrongful conviction over erroneous acquittal stems, at least in part, from the combination of sacralized authoritarianism and perceived racial threat.

It's a bit overwhelming for me as a quilt, but it works pretty well to capture the inside of my head!

I was aiming for easy, filling, and a little different and I got it. 👍🏼
Experiment of 6 October 2025 1 bag frozen sweet potato chunks (12 ounces?) About 1/3 or 1/2 can spicy black beans About 1 1/2 cups whole milk ricotta Emptied bag of frozen sweet potatoes into casserole dish. Threw on 3 teaspoon slices of salted butter. Sprinkled generously with smoked paprika, then salted & peppered. Dropped on an amount of rinsed black beans. Mixed ricotta with Cavender's All-Greek Seasoning, then spooned on top of sweet potatoes & beans. Put in oven covered for 30mins at 350F. Hopefully it comes out okay. Notes: Not sure I like the texture of the frozen sweet potatoes. Was a little heavy on the Cavender's and ricotta, but the flavor was good combined with the mild spice from the beans and the smoked paprika. I would have tried layers, but I overestimated how much sweet potato one of the frozen bags would be. "First and foremost, my thoughts, and those of my officers and staff, are with the families of the loved ones who have been affected by today's horrific incident, on what is the Jewish community's holiest day: Yom Kippur. "This has been officially declared as a terrorist incident, and the investigation is now being led by Counter Terrorist Police. As has been confirmed by CT policing, we believe that the identity of the offender has been established but until we are certain of this fact, it is premature to set out this detail. In addition, I can confirm that two other individuals have been arrested in connection with this incident and enquiries are ongoing. "We can confirm that two members of our Jewish community have sadly died as a result of this attack. Following a rapid response, armed officers from Greater Manchester Police intercepted the offender and he was fatally shot by officers, within seven minutes of the initial call. "Four further people remain in hospital, having suffered a variety of serious injuries and their treatment is ongoing and our thoughts remain with them at this time. "Enquiries are moving at pace, and very visible and proactive policing activity is ongoing across Greater Manchester and beyond. Updates will be provided as soon as possible. Our priority is to keep the public safe. "At this time, we know that a car was driven directly at members of the public, outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue on Middleton Road, Crumpsall in Manchester. The driver of the car, was seen to then attack people with a knife. He was wearing about his body a vest which had the appearance of an explosive device. [Alt text continued] "There were a large number of worshippers attending the synagogue at the time of this attack, but thanks to the immediate bravery of security staff and worshippers inside, and the fast response of the police, the attacker was prevented from gaining access. All those inside were safely contained until police were able to confirm that it was safe to leave the premises.
