media and entertainment lawyer demystifying AI, publicity, IP + contracts for creatives, performers, and tech folk 🎬 into film, tv, wine🍷 self-exiled American in London 🩵 Hugo’s Mom
Spoke at “The Augmented Gaze” in Rotterdam yesterday on AI, XR & privacy for #NationalXRDay. But I don’t want to lecture about AI. I want real conversations, with room for nuance, doubt, and human stakes. These convos aren’t just for lecture halls or boardrooms — they belong over coffee, over wine.

*screams silently in contract lawyer*

"Independance"

I know, I know. I’m the sort of person who adjusts formatting in other people’s Google Docs and gets emotionally invested in the placement of apostrophes.

But this? Channel 5, this is violence.

In an augmented world, you might appear as a version of you shaped by someone else’s imagination, algorithm, or agenda… at RESKINNED ALIVE at @sxsw London today, I got to explore that tension as a lawyer who specialises in publicity and digital personhood. Love my job ⚡️

So happy to be here in #Cannes for the 78th Cannes Film Festival!

Almost everyone has an opinion on using AI in the movie industry 🤔 my job is to help people protect their rights and, if they *do* want to use the tech, to do so responsibly. Want my personal view? It’ll cost you a Campari Spritz

Over the bank holiday weekend, I took my almost-3-year-old to Greenwich Park. Like many parents, I couldn’t resist capturing a few moments of that wild toddler energy…

But this time, I didn’t reach for my phone. I just pressed a small button on my sunglasses.

Sigh. The reaction was not furious because reactions aren’t capable of feeling emotions. People feel emotions; a reaction can be described by its nature (“reaction of fury”), but not by an emotional state like furious.

Should be “The people were furious. The reaction was one of fury.”

I’m officially speaking at @SXSW.com London! Out of 3,000+ applications, the brilliant Rob Morgan's "Reskinned alive: how will AI and XR reimagine human identity?" was one of just 75 selected for inclusion in the official line-up... and he's asked me to join him on stage 🤩 #SXSWLondon

Regulators are boring. Policymakers are boring. Lawyers are boring. Yeah, I know. But we have an important job to do — especially when it comes to stuff like keeping consumers, audiences, patients, and children safe ✨

Me for TRT Roundtable, discussing Trump and Elon Musk’s dislike of regulations.
November 29, 2024 at 11:10 AM
The Trump-Musk bromance seems to be all about “cutting waste” and firing “lazy bureaucrats”. Are we seeing cutthroat corporate tactics that don’t fit well with the public sector? With democracy more generally?
November 28, 2024 at 11:26 PM
What are Musk's views on government regulation?

I’ve just arrived in Antwerp. Not only is Antwerpen-Centraal one of the most gorgeous train stations I’ve ever seen, but the ease with which I navigated here from Brussels (while multitasking and barely caffeinated) puts England to shame. Honestly, I have PTSD thanks to Euston and Virgin / Avanti

I’m so excited to be attending the Global Screen Creators Summit tomorrow! 🤩📝🎬 I’ll be moderating a discussion between some incredibly talented writers about AI and what it means for creativity

AI bias in filmmaking — what is it, how does it happen, and what can we do to prevent racial &/or gendered stereotypes? I discussed this important question during an interview at Locarno Film Festival last month! Here’s an excerpt ⬇️ #genai #filmindustry

2/ It’s a standard test to assess a child’s ability to recognise shapes, patterns, and familiar objects, checking their cognitive and language development. You’d usually expect answers like “man” or “snowman.”

So I asked, “What’s this?” His answer? “Robot.” 🤖

1/ As part of my son’s recent 2-year health assessment, I had to show him a simple drawing — a small circle on top of a bigger one, connected by a line. The smaller circle had a dot and a smile, and from the bigger circle there were lines sticking out for an arm and a leg.

So pleased that I managed to get tickets for this talk by Denis Villeneuve! Arrival is one of my favourite films ✨ I’ll also be attending a talk by Lupita Nyong'o and seeing, amongst other things, the new 4K restoration version of Watership Down (1978) #LondonFilmFestival

Not sure if this counts as a “beach” but my husband and I took our toddler to Whitstable yesterday and he loved looking at the boats
