This charming crab is waving goodbye to 2025. One of many marine images around a lost figure of Neptune (a wheel from his chariot survived) under what is now Gloucester House in Dyer Street, Cirencester. This image was the most popular of my #MosaicMonday offerings this year!

Hi BlueSky. Can you help solve this Christmas mystery?
A gift in a cracker. A hard plastic black ball. Three white-ish spots on one side, one white-ish spot on the other. No instructions, nothing else with it. Any ideas what it is or what it’s supposed to do?

As many of us begin Christmas meal prep, allow me to share the advice that my ER nurse sister puts in the chat every year:

A dropped knife has no handle. Jump away. Let it fall. You can pick it up and wash it.

I’m increasingly uneasy about the flood of AI images on social media. They are mostly absurd and frustrating. They may sometimes be creative experiments, but the fact that so many users take them at face value says a lot about our collective loss of visual literacy.

A mini-story to cheer you up this morning. The other day my teenage son returned to his locked bike to find the back wheel nicked. We went back yesterday to rescue it - and found this note taped to the frame. We have the wheel again. A very happy Xmas to Ollie and his note-writing other half.
