an adorable fluffy white chick (about a week old) standing on my palm. the look in her eyes is a “no thoughts” kind of look The same chick, now grown up, whiskery and comicallt long necked, standing in the door of the coop & staring out, looking like Captain Ahab seeing a plume of water rise in the distance, possibly the plume of a white whale. The chicken’s name was Smaug & she was my kid’s favorite.

no northern lights tonight, either, but the night is still beautiful
a nighttime exposure of the sky caught between two stands of elongated trees, mostly leafless. There is a wisp of cloud caught in the branches and small dots of stars. A blur of light is coming from the center bottom frame and there are freckles and blotches of light in the bottom half of the photo. The color of the sky grows darker and more saturated as the eye looks upward.

The local paper has an excellent feature where people send in photos of a dish they made at home & they publish one. I’m thinking of sending in this from our 2nd attempt to make vegan fudge where it just totally adhered to the parchment paper like a cold chocolate limpet. Think they’ll publish it?
An old square brownie pan with a tatter of parchment paper slimed with the clingiest fudge you have ever met. There is a spoon in the pan. I am smiling sheepfacedly & holding up parchment paper with fudge stalactites dripping down from it.

Anyway, here are the ducks of Grey Matter, and here is the drawing, inside, of two people wanted for stealing books. I choose to believe this is an accurate tendering of Edina & Patsy from Ab Fab.
Some of the many, many white ducks in a leafy vine-covered wire enclosure. They have a little plastic swimming pool and they are cackling menacingly and loudly. A child’s drawing in yellow & red marker of two women, very pointy. Necks are long, nose is a capital U. Arms and legs are short. Clothes look like Lego blocks. A large X is drawn across them. These women are book thieves!
