Big reader. Little writer. Life science enthusiast. Sometimes gardener. ‘Migrant.’ Opinions mine (and loads of ‘em).
Had a call with my GP today about a medication side effect.

Her: ‘you’re medically complex…’
Me: ‘yes.’
Her: ‘have you done any reading about this? Do you have some ideas about what to do?’
Me: ‘I had hoped you might have some ideas. As you’re my physician.’
Her: ‘…’
Me: ‘…’

You may laugh, but the Macbeths are a much better role model for a marriage than Romeo and Juliet. They discuss their problems (killing the king of Scotland), share their hobbies (killing the king of Scotland), and resolve their conflicts (by killing the king of Scotland).

Extremely romantic valentine date at the opticians: husband needed varifocal lenses and I needed my eye pressure checked. We know how to keep romance alive.

In my last role, I was told I could not be promoted because I was not a calm presence. In my performance review today, I was praised highly for being so calm in challenging situations. I will allow you to guess the difference between then and now. Hint: it doesn’t relate to my calmness.

I know it’s hard to have optimism right now, but if there’s one thing that is genuinely giving me hope it is seeing communities — hell, neighborhoods, even portions of cities — stand up in unison against tyranny in a way that is active, capable, savvy. It’s really powerful.

I’ve reached the most important part of my holiday process: dressing in incomprehensible outfits, reading three books at once, and making a heroic quantity of tamales.

Was at a Christmas party with a load of clergy last night and as some people were leaving they found a person collapsed on the street outside so the Verger took over and called an ambulance and sent all the clergy away because "if they wake up surrounded by priests that'll just make things worse"

The DVSA theory test kit is surreal. Study portion: ‘remember to check blind spots.’ Me: okay, got it. Test portion: ‘what should you do when approached by someone herding sheep on a dual carriageway?’

I had a supreme lapse of judgment and popped to the shops on the Sunday before Christmas. I think I need to sit in total silence for the next several days to recover.

I went to an art exhibit today that was very prescriptive about how the audience must interact with it. We were told we had to verbalise responses to certain pieces, and gallery staff came round to tell us where to stand, what to do. It’s been bothering me all day.

Today I challenged a man’s opinion, so he both 1) made fun of my accent and 2) explained how we do things in This Country. So I think I must have made a fairly irrefutable point.

The Covid enquiry has concluded that the reality we all witnessed *was* the actual reality, and the version which Johnson, Cummings et al insisted was happening was a total fabrication.

It’s incredible that we have to have lengthy enquiries after the event to establish consensus reality now.

One of the great heartbreaks of being in the disability community is how often we lose people and how many of our most powerful voices have gone silent. We must live our lives loudly and joyously in their honor and remember that our very existence is resistance.
Oh no I just heard we lost Alice. This is terribly sad. She was an incredible, talented, powerful voice of the disability community. She stood strong for herself and for all of us. She will be missed immensely.
‘Death remains my intimate shadow partner. It has been with me since birth, always hovering close by. I understand one day we will finally waltz together into the ether. I hope when that time comes, I die with the satisfaction of a life well-lived, unapologetic, joyful, & full of love.’

To explain briefly: at the moment people successful in their asylum claims get permission to stay in the UK for 5 years, then have to apply for permanent residency. At that point a review of their status is done, but it’s rare not to succeed at that point unless they‘ve committed an offence 1/
To reiterate, this is about making life immeasurably more miserable and stressful for some of the most vulnerable people, in the almost certainly vain hope of winning over the votes of racists.

Anything more shabby and shameful is difficult to envisage.
