If you are wondering how your local libraries are doing, it's not well.

I just made a "Library Funding Issues Cheat Sheet" for my staff to be prepared if people ask questions about all the different ways that the government is trying to defund libraries.

Here is a script you can use for any issue. Find your reps' # at reps.fyi or 5calls.org. Every time you see a news story that horrifies you: call, or something else about it. It matters to say what you believe. You are setting a norm.

I've been seeing a lot of posts about readers trying to curb their own book buying. Let me remind you of the library. Libraries can use your support now more than ever. When you checkout library books this lets funding authorities know the library is worthy of taxpayer money. 1/3

As we get into the era of DEI rollbacks and boycotting, I just want to remind you that not everyone can boycott every place- whether that’s due to physical/mental health, socioeconomic status, or location.

Do what you can, when you can. And know what your privileges are.

How can you tell if someone is a mood reader? They’re in the middle of 10 different books.

It’s me. I’m a mood reader.

Library tip for today: Ask a librarian for your next book recommendation! Librarians love to give suggestions for books, especially if you are looking for specific vibes! If you can't ask, check their website to see if they have a website like NovelList, which provides the same service! #booksky📚💙

I work at a small library that serves a village and I LOVE being able to do this with so many patrons. It's just as special from the librarian's perspective as it is from yours!
this morning, my local librarian recognized me by name, and it made my day

get to know your libraries and defend them

I sent my director an email about a professional development thing I'm trying to do and now I am just waiting for her to respond. I might break outlook's refresh button.

I have never read anything by @scalzi.com but seeing him interact with people on here makes me want to add a book of his to my TBR! Does anyone have any recommendations for a good book of his to start with?

I have a big ask. My 9yo son is autistic and he’s been raising a betta fish he named Kevin. Yesterday He asked if he could “share a photo of Kevin with the whole world“. I don’t know if this will work, but a dad’s gotta try. Like and share if that’s your thing. Kevin says hi! 🐟👋

One of my goals this year is to write something. I read as much as I can but have never finished a writing project because I panic about it not being good.

Do any of you in #writersky have advice on how to get out of my head about my writing?

Remember:

It can be sad. It can be tragic. It can be disgusting and depressing and discouraging.

But it doesn’t have to mean this is who we are now. It’s what our country is doing right now and that’s not the same as who we are.

Who we are isn’t up to him.

Sometimes it’s okay to DNF a book and come back to it years later.

I have DNFed Gideon the Ninth two times. I could not connect with it.

This is my third time reading it and I am loving it. And I can’t wait to finish it.

So, put that book down and come back to it later.
