Most likely did! Back in the early twentieth century, musical theatres even held giveaways of those dolls for kids in attendance.

When I was researching my book on blackface throughout the British Empire, *several* Brits both insisted that blackface was a US thing *and* that they remembered the BBC’s Black and White Minstrel Show fondly.
My book Transoceanic Blackface: Empire, Race, Performance is available from Northwestern University Press.

It maps the global history of blackface, minstrelsy, and related forms of racialized performance such as brownface and yellowface.

Solidarity.
Just came across a citation of my scholarship, except it is a completely inaccurate citation that bears all the hallmarks of AI generated BS.

Where do I put this on my CV?

Hard agree, though it’s worth noting that Oster is a professor of economics.

Spoiler alert: it’s musical theatre’s fault.

On this point, I have an essay coming out where I trace how this particular racial slur turned into the shorter and more ubiquitous racial slur for Black and Brown Brits.

This is a bit from 30 Rock, and you can’t convince me otherwise.
