It's been really exciting to be part of this residency where things we build get in front of decision makers at states with immediate feedback, and we're able to get things out that help them daily.
I need to write more / talk about the work but it's been very intense the last two weeks lol

We knew that the partial payment amounts for SNAP was going to be confusing, and spun up a very quick tool to show the numbers: partial-payment-calculator.vercel.app/chart
States started using it IMMEDIATELY, and we saw it in presentations across SNAP offices just as fast

it was an anti establishment year so he won over his primary opponent (a centrist) and people hated oz more. there were rumblings from his time as mayor, but also his wife seemed really cool.
then he had a stroke and i imagine his worse impulses are just more frequent now. entire staff turnover

I asked Georgetown law prof David Super wtf is going on with this latest demand for states to claw back benefits already sent out.
He says the law doesn't allow for this, and if the USDA is mad that states already sent out SNAP money, too bad—they were following USDA's own guidance. Full comments:

meanwhile New York State processed its rolls this morning and is sending out 100% of its november.
Big states will hopefully be the shield for smaller states to send out their benefits

States are under so much pressure right now and would really love to feed their constituents.

USDA telling states to pause benefits is one thing. Telling them to claw back benefits is another: a) illegal - you can't do this without due process b) an administrative nightmare.
If courts rule against the administration (again), states would have to given benefits back.

Yikes. USDA sent threatening letter to states telling them that if they sent out EBT money —which many states did during the window when a lower court said SNAP funds had to be released—they have to take it back (?)
Trying to sort out what this means and if states even can claw back the funds

i apparently added a rotation key via a command line tool a few months ago and didn’t save it, tried running some PDS commands and they kept failing without it attached until my account switched into an “inactive” state. the ui has a button to reactivate but it errors 💀
