It’s awards season. My 4th time seeing #Sinners on the big screen and yep, still my film of the year. Also getting the opportunity to speak with Ryan and Miles was awesome too!

Lastly in the catch up is Idris Elba’s #DusttoDreams about a young Nigerian girl inheriting a nightclub while meeting her father for the first time. Great concept, but it’s half a movie. A real shame because this would have worked better as a feature than a short. Instead, it’s rushed.

Next up is Susan Wokoma’s #DarkSkinBruisesDifferently about the adultification of Black kids, trauma and a teacher fighting for integrity. Wished it was longer because there’s more of the conversation to be extracted. However, it’s still powerful stuff knowing the complex internal struggles at play.

So the #LFF catch up continues with shorts. First up is Letitia Wright’s debut #HighwaytotheMoon - a beautifully shot film about Black boys tragically taken away from this world as they spend time in the ‘inbetween’ confronting their realities. Personal and deep, Wright showcases her talent here.

So last night, film 23 of #LFF went to #LoveBrooklyn starring André Holland and Nicole Beharie. It’s a cute film by director Rachael Abigail Holder and while I would have loved a bit more to its story, the chemistry is great. More Black love stories in this world please. We need more of them.
