Yeah, it really just benefits 9-5 white collar workers, some government jobs but not all, and blue collar union jobs where the CBA requires holidays off.

I don't disagree with you about public goods, but I'm not sure what that has to do with the point I'm making about people still operating from the framework of evangelical persecution complexes

I've gotten a bunch of free skincare via insta ads because the algorithm thinks I'm somebody who will influence other people into buying things if I'm sent full size samples, and not the kind where you pay for shipping. I basically just stay on IG because it keeps me from having to buy moisturizer

Inventing reasons to feel persecuted so that you can feel something is just another form of self-harm. It's not healthy, and it's definitely not good praxis.

I have a juvie record in two states thanks to Operation Rescue, I think that's more than enough persecution of my own making for a lifetime and then some.

It reminds me a lot of the evangelical urge to feel persecuted because comfort without persecution means you're doing something wrong and being a bad Christian.

Probably because a lot of the people who think the way are ex-evangelicals who have no idea how to just exist without constant worry.

The individualistic idea Americans tend to have that there's a distinction between a country and a country's people isn't universal, and a lot of people in other countries are still going to judge us for what our government does. You can't opt out of judgment by bothsidesing and refusing to vote.

Yeah, Trump exists in a black and white world where there's no such thing as innocent civilians, and civilians are paying the price

I don't think it should have ever reached the point where planes were in the air and bombing Haiti was ever on the table, don't get me wrong, but I'd rather that there at least be a chance to stop military action than no chance at all.

For those who weren't alive and old enough to be aware of politics in the 1990s, the planes were called back and Haiti didn't get bombed, and most people don't know that it wasn't just metaphorical to say that the planes were in the air when Carter reached a deal, because I saw them with my own eyes
