Absolutely! It’s important to consider the ethics of AI just as much as any benefits/problems etc.
This is just one article about the environmental impact of AI systems… and just one reason for my very strong feelings that no, we should NOT all be using this and teaching our students how to do so, let alone incorporating it into classes and assignments.
“In order to shoot off one email per week for a year, ChatGPT would use up 27 liters of water, or about one-and-a-half jugs… that means if one in 10 U.S. residents—16 million people—asked ChatGPT to write an email a week, it’d cost more than 435 million liters of water.”

I am also stepping down from my panel at the Oxford Literary Festival, which I would have shared with AJ. I've agonized over this decision, but for my own personal safety and my conscience as a trans nonbinary author, I believe this to be the only way forward. 1/3
I have decided to step down from my panel at the Oxford Literary Festival. I hoped to celebrate and share queer stories + highlight the long history of LGBTQ+ lives. Gutted that voices will now be absent, but I stand in solidarity with my trans friends and writers. As the mollies say #AlwaysTogether

More talk this week on AI vs human indexing. The book ‘INDEX, A History of the’ by @djbduncan.bsky.social has two indexes – a computer-generated one by automated software, and an index created by a human indexer (me). They are really not the same.
