Massachusetts, and miniature golf was the generic term, Putt-Putt was the name of a particular place - I think it may have been a chain? Ours was sandwiched between the parking lots for Caldors and the Shopper ‘s World mall.

Yeah, she was a baker, not much of a cook. I mean she did cook. But she oughtn’t have. So only the baking spices got used, and only the most basic of those - no allspice or clove even - and only in 1/2 teaspoons.

My mother was still working her way through some tins of herbs and spices she had received as a wedding present when she reached her 50th anniversary. The only things she used regularly were ginger, nutmeg and cinnamon.

Hm. I would use “whipped up” in conversation if someone was creating something from nothing. Like, “looked like there was nothing in the house to eat, but somehow she whipped up a beautiful meal.” which is what whipping will do! So there’s an element of understating resources as well as effort.
