It's frustrating, I thought I'd left that shit behind in videogames, but it turns out that teenage boys who want to assert allegiance to a community through performative toxicity are everywhere in gaming. At least it's easy to ignore once you remember that none of it is based in practical experience

SOTW's mechs were in an extremely good position at the end of private playtesting and they *still* received 3 hour collective hate-rants over assumed flaws, god knows what would have happened if I showed off earlier versions of those designs

Weirdly it's not that (though I appreciate its value for that as well), but more that I feel like my designs get a disproportionate amount of scrutiny and I don't want to give people more of an excuse to disparage my design skill by showing off the drafts

I think most paid GMing work is online these days though, and apparently like all gig work it's extremely hard, underpaid, and precarious

The last time I was hired to GM was by a rich dude who came into the LGS asking if there was anyone who would run some games for his kids, and the owner pointed him my way (they were cool kids, I was sad to stop)
