This is why the European Commission may begin working on amending or weakening data protection rules, such as the #GDPR, as early as 2025/2026. The same applies to the AI Act. Don’t underestimate this—every political group in the EU has its supporters for such changes.

Is this a last call for Argentina, NZ, Canada, and Uruguay, to update their data protection and data privacy laws?

Andorra, Faroe Islands, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Israel, Jersey, and Switzerland have already updated its data protection laws.

Hopefully the plans to extend the FOI Act to "private companies that hold public contracts" and "publicly funded employers" will become law.
Gov plans to extend #FOI Act to "private companies that hold public contracts" and "publicly funded employers"

Document below is "Next Steps to Make Work Pay"

See section "Longer-term delivery of reforms (autumn 2024 and onwards). Item 10.

Exciting times 👍
Interesting! Tucked away in the government's "Make Work Pay" policy is the extension of both the Public Sector Equality Duty and Freedom of Information requirements to private sector organisations exercising public functions / delivering public contracts.
