It’s tempting to think Team Cherry set out to cater to the GDQ scene: something that challenges the very pinnacle of hardcore gamers. Sadly that ain’t me, and even though I finished the original Hollow Knight I can’t see me getting past Act 2.

For this specific example I downloaded a video clip from YouTube, opened it as a frame animation in Photoshop then tweaked the aspect ratio/crop, and looped some of the frames to extend the ‘lit’ section. The audio is also from the soundtrack.

I created a custom tool for uploading new animations (it’s a little technical but you can find it here: github.com/kapowaz/door...). You _can_ upload animated GIFs and MP3s via the web interface to customise it, but there are some limitations (I talk about these in the readme)

I hear you, but when in history has a single massive player ever dominated a market *without* using anti-competitive tactics? You don’t get big enough for your CEO to own an entire fleet of yachts without cutting a few corners.

I’m always a little surprised at how people are *surprised* at this. Steam has always struck me as a lowest-effort product, especially when you compare it to modern software platforms from big tech companies. You only get that lack of effort, absentee landlord behaviour, when you don’t need to try.

But honestly it’s inevitable. Anywhere you see this concentration of market power in the hands of a single player it’s ripe for abuse and anti-competitive behaviour.
