A fun fact about Estonia is that you are legally required to wear reflectors in the dark months so that you don’t get hit by cars. Usually this is a little keychain type thing dangling from your coat and/or backpack.

So, meet my guardian of darkness gnome. Name suggestions are very much welcome!

Interested in visiting Australia? Consider this international fellowship at Adelaide University (my eventual academic home)! Get up to $20k AUD to spend 4-8 weeks collaborating and fostering connection with researchers on key themes (incl. health & well-being). adelaideuni.edu.au/partners-and...

One of the best parts of my job is that I get to visit seemingly random but interesting places. Today I spent the afternoon in Narva (northeastern Estonian city bordering Russia). Such a fascinating place.

This part is particularly horrifying. Like, whaaatttt? Don't ever do this.

Also, if you don't like doing science, you know that you can literally do anything else with your time, right? Stop taking shortcuts to pad your CV. This is beyond ridiculous.

Had a wonderful first day at the @estwell.bsky.social annual conference! The presentations were outstanding and I’ve had so many exciting conversations about cool research. And the location is really nice, too :) @andero.bsky.social

Case in point. The OSF preprint page had a notification, but this says content-specific servers are fine. There is no notification on psyarxiv. Relying solely on social media to disseminate this information is completely unfair.

Similar to this, the times that I went paragliding, I was never “on the edge” of anything (eg., looking over a cliff). I always started on a regular hill, you do a little jog down, and then you start floating. The chair is like a backpack so you can’t move out of it at all.

My only take away from this is that our lab's dog needs a google scholar profile ASAP. He's earned his co-authorship through all the meetings he's attended!

Spotted @falklab.bsky.social’s book featured at Shakespeare and Company in Paris! You’re not supposed to take pics in the shop, but I had to sneak one in because it made me so happy. Such a great book!

Finally made it to France! If you’re at CERE later this week in Grenoble, be sure to say hi! 👋

Sent a paper off to my mentor and celebrated with a chill ride before sunset ☀️

This is the only acceptable way to write on a sunny Friday afternoon. Also, conference posters on sport fabric make great park blankets.

Oregon summer is insane. So lucky to have this in my backyard ☀️

Fridays are for long walks in the park, laying in the flowers, and soaking up all the sunshine.

I just use screen mirroring and it connects automatically! I think it's a native feature from apple (e.g., you don't need a separate app).

Get an iPad! I use my 13in iPad pro as an monitor and I LOVE it. When at my desk (like right now), I use it for music or other entertainment since my monitor is massive (30in). But the 13in iPad + 15 in MacBook Pro when traveling is perfect. The pro iPad is not necessary, but I like this size.

This poster is part of our first attempt at empirically testing what we proposed in a commentary paper I wrote with Ell last summer (linked below). We're so excited for Vanessa to share this work at her first conference!
