Christmas is old school prime rib and Yorkshire pudding, but about 50 years ago my mom made clam chowder for Christmas Eve and we've been doing it ever since. Now it's my wife's contribution to Christmas cooking. And we do sausage crêpes for Christmas breakfast.
it fascinates me how most everyone in the U.S. does turkey for Thanksgiving, but we are all over the map as to what we eat for Christmas (as is proper for a hugely diverse nation).

I come from a Christmas prime rib roast family, myself.
I also use the bacon method. Although turkey is Christmas dinner where I come from.

Saw an ad yesterday for an AI tool to build a fantasy sports team with just one click, saving hours of research. I don’t do fantasy sports, but I thought researching and building the team was the whole point?
Fellas, are you worried the other guys aren’t mocking your grilling skills enough?
no it isn’t!!! fuck you!!!

I'm not a young person by any measure but I definitely became less depressed and anxious when I stopped using Meta. I miss 2007 Facebook, but 2025 Meta is garbage.
Meta halted internal research that purportedly showed (young) people who stopped using Facebook became less depressed and anxious, according to an unredacted legal filing released on Friday. www.cnbc.com/2025/11/23/m...

Muting "zz" right now is an absolutely rational self-preservation strategy. I will be collateral damage, but I assure you, nothing I post will be worth the risk. I think I cease to exist if I do it, but save yourselves.

Interesting because I know we have at least one mandate to "run something by DOGE first." I guess that's no longer operative?

Journalist challenge: Use “Machine Learning” when you mean machine learning and “LLM” when you mean LLM. Ditch “AI” as a catch-all term, it’s not useful for readers and it helps companies trying to confuse the public by obscuring the roles played by different technologies. 🧪

My father told me I had to apply for an ROTC scholarship. I didn't get it, which pissed me off and led me to earn a commission out of spite.

As we enter the end-of-semester stretch, some thoughts about the first full college semester with ubiquitous AI: 🧵 1/3

1. AI can be a very useful helper for some learning, but only for students who already have skills in the area they’re using it for; LEARN TO USE AI, DONT USE AI TO LEARN.

Charlie Kirk was extremely controversial and a lot of people didn’t like him, but that doesn’t in any way justify murdering him.
Trump suggests Khashoggi had it coming: "You're mentioning someone that was extremely controversial. A lot of people didn't like that gentleman that you're talking about. Whether you like him or didn't like him, things happen. But he knew nothing about it. You don't have to embarrass our guest."

So every president gets to pick one policy they can implement without Congressional action and immune from judicial review.

I feel like that would come as a surprise to the framers.

Ah yes, the golden age of healthcare before the ACA ruined it. Back when Hollywood made movies about people becoming terrorists so they could get healthcare for their children. High risk pools were definitely a silver bullet and not a ghetto for sick people.
Tom Emmer: "You're gonna have to create high risk pools again. Just go back where Minnesota was before the ACA."

Jesus it’s even worse than the headline. He’s trying to exonerate pedophile priests on the grounds they were “homosexuals” rather than pedophiles, as if those are mutually exclusive. Particularly weird in light of the persistent right wing effort to paint ALL LGBTQ people as pedophiles.
Holy shit. They're really doing it. They're doing "actually pedophilia is good now." The debasement of the American Right is complete.
